Are you an experienced compliance professional who enjoys challenging assumptions, analysing complex risks and providing meaningful assurance? Join ING's Compliance Quality Assurance (CQA) team and help strengthen the effectiveness of the compliance risk control environment across Retail Banking and Wholesale Banking. In this role, you will independently assess whether compliance processes, products and systems operate as intended, while helping ING stay future-fit in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
The team
The Compliance Quality Assurance (CQA) team is part of ING's second line Compliance function and is responsible for assessing the quality and effectiveness of the compliance risk control environment. The team provides independent assurance on compliance-related risks across ING Netherlands, covering areas such as Financial Crime Compliance, Conduct & Ethics, Customer Centricity and Data Privacy. Through thematic reviews, process assessments and continuous monitoring activities, the team helps senior management understand whether controls are effective and where improvements are needed. The team values curiosity, diversity of thought, innovation and collaboration, and works closely with stakeholders across Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking and Group Compliance.
Roles and responsibilities
As a Compliance Quality Assurance Specialist, you will contribute to assurance and monitoring activities across ING Netherlands and help strengthen the effectiveness of the compliance framework.
- Execute thematic and process reviews across Retail Banking and Wholesale Banking processes, products and systems.
- Assess the design and operating effectiveness of compliance controls and the Compliance Risk Management Cycle.
- Deliver assurance activities in line with Group Compliance QA methodologies and quality standards.
- Perform data-driven testing and sample reviews to enhance monitoring effectiveness.
- Support the execution and tracking of the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan.
- Coordinate and contribute to continuous monitoring activities across key compliance topics.
- Monitor progress, follow up on observations and ensure findings are accurately recorded in the relevant systems.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and compliance specialists to challenge, advise and drive improvements.
- Provide oversight on assurance activities, including Key Control Testing and other monitoring initiatives.
- Contribute to planning, reporting, training and ongoing development of the Compliance Assurance function.

- You bring a university degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in Compliance Monitoring, Quality Assurance, Internal Audit, Risk Management or a closely related field.
- You have strong knowledge of compliance risk areas such as Financial Crime Compliance, Conduct & Ethics, Customer Centricity and Data Privacy.
- You understand Wholesale and Retail Banking products, customers, processes and regulatory requirements, enabling you to assess risks effectively.
- You combine strong analytical skills with a data-driven mindset and can translate data into meaningful assurance insights.
- You are comfortable challenging the status quo and actively look for opportunities to improve methodologies, processes and ways of working.
- You communicate clearly and build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management and control functions.
- You have excellent English (verbal/written) and communication skills
- You work independently, take ownership and know when to seek support while maintaining a strong focus on outcomes and quality.
