A Brief Summary of This Position

While working under the direction of the Departmental Supervisor/Lead Person, the employee will be responsible for safely transporting raw material from inventory location to manufacturing work area. This position is also responsible for performing various inventory transactions of receiving and the issuing of plate, tubes and raw material from inventory location to manufacturing work in process (WIP) order and shipping requirements.

Days 1st Shift Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday 7AM - 3PM*

*As needed, there will be work hours required outside the Standard Shift Schedule (above)

Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG4): $20.34

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year and 2 years

Eligible for annual discretionary bonus

Essential Functions

  • Assure the proper identification of parts being received and issued to shop orders by part number, description, quantity and quality
  • Complete receiving and issuing transaction of parts to shop orders by the means of the MRP system to assure inventory control
  • Complete kit-up of shop orders by following the shop schedule
  • Utilize Valmont’s IFS computer system to assure inventory control of component parts that will be used for the assembly area
  • Performs inventory cycle counts and correct any errors and/or discrepancies
  • Complete Valmont’s forklift training course
  • Operate a forklift
  • Complete Valmont’s straddle truck training course
  • Operate a straddle truck.
  • Move completed work from manufacturing area to be staged in shipping yard
  • Complete the overhead crane training program
  • Operate overhead crane
  • Identify proper storage areas for component parts and decide how to organize area for maximum storage with easy access.
  • Identify equipment malfunction and report problems to maintenance/lead person
  • Coordinate your time to keep an efficient flow of product delivered to assigned areas while maintaining inventory accuracy
  • Accurately check work for quality assurance
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Ability to use common manufacturing math
  • 6 months prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • 6 months prior experience operating heavy equipment
  • 6 months prior experience using computer inventory control system
  • Ability to obtain forklift operator certification
  • Complete overhead crane training
  • Become proficient in operating a straddle truck

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • 1 year prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • 1 year prior working experience operating heavy equipment
  • 1 year prior working experience using IFS system to tract work orders
  • The ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance
  • A person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment and Physical Efforts

Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection. There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.

  • ​Physical efforts include: standing – 80%, bending over – 15%, average weight handled – 25 lbs., operator grinds 10% and uses buffer 10% of time.
  • Direct and indirect exposure to weld fumes
  • Ambient air conditions; both hot in the summer and cold in the winter
  • Potential for hearing loss if proper PPE not used
