About The Role

AECOM's environmental practice is dedicated to helping industries, clients and governments meet their environmental responsibilities while protecting the natural environment. We provide advisory and technical services to ensure compliance, manage impacts and reduce risks, including obtaining permits and approvals, restoring contaminated sites, and helping organisations respond to climate change.

Our Sustainability and Resilience team helps organisations, governments and communities prepare for the challenges of a changing climate while creating more sustainable and resilient places. We provide strategic advice across climate resilience, sustainability, ESG, nature-based solutions and corporate strategy, helping clients better integrate climate change and sustainability with broader organisational drivers to inform decision-making and deliver long-term value.

We are one of the most trusted and respected Sustainability and Resilience practices across Australia and New Zealand, with specialists working collaboratively across the region. Our team has helped shape industry progress through the development of guidance and standards on climate risk management and nature-based solutions, and through strategic partnerships with organisations including the Committee for Sydney, Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. Our Brisbane team is growing, and we're looking for an experienced consultant who is passionate about sustainability and climate resilience to join us.

You'll work alongside industry-leading specialists and collaborate with clients across government, infrastructure, transport, water, energy and the private sector. As part of AECOM's global network, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to major national projects, including our role as the delivery partner for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The work you'll be exposed to

Our team works across every aspect of the climate resilience and sustainability agenda, including

  • Climate Resilience including physical and transition climate risk assessments, scenario analysis, climate vulnerability assessments, heat mapping, urban and community resilience, natural climate solutions and digital innovation.
  • Sustainability including ESG materiality assessments, Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Ratings, corporate and project sustainability strategies, and sustainability advisory.
  • Nature-based Solutions including natural capital accounting, TNFD and nature-positive strategy development, biodiversity market analysis and innovative digital tools.
  • Strategic Advisory supporting organisations to embed climate change, sustainability and resilience into business strategy, investment decisions and long-term organisational planning, and to respond to evolving state, national and international climate disclosure and reporting requirements.

How you'll make a difference

As part of our Sustainability and Resilience Practice, you'll work within multidisciplinary teams to help clients understand climate risks, improve sustainability performance and develop practical strategies for the future.

Your day-to-day will involve

  • Leading projects across climate resilience, sustainability, ESG and nature-based solutions for public and private sector clients.
  • Leading climate risk assessments, scenario analysis, climate vulnerability assessments and resilience planning, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Providing strategic, evidence-based advice on climate change impacts, risks and opportunities, and identifying practical adaptation and resilience measures.
  • Facilitating client workshops and strategic discussions, anticipating client needs and helping shape solutions that deliver lasting value.
  • Supporting organisations to respond to evolving climate disclosure and reporting requirements while embedding resilience and sustainability into business strategy and decision-making.
  • Developing sustainability strategies, ESG materiality assessments and broader organisational approaches to climate and sustainability.
  • Working collaboratively with engineers, planners, economists, scientists and environmental specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships, identifying opportunities to expand our support and helping clients build the capability to continue and mature their sustainability and resilience programs beyond our engagement.
  • Contributing to business development activities, thought leadership, innovative digital tools and approaches that improve project delivery and client outcomes.
  • Preparing and reviewing high-quality reports, presentations and technical advice for a diverse range of clients.

What are we looking for from you?

You are first and foremost a collaborative team player who enjoys working across disciplines and contributing to a positive, high-performing team culture. You combine strong self-awareness, commercial acumen and communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

Drawing on your experience in climate risk, resilience and/or sustainability, you are a critical thinker who can analyse complex issues, anticipate client needs and develop practical, value-driven solutions. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting to changing priorities and identifying opportunities to help clients respond to emerging challenges. You are naturally curious about industry trends and innovations, proactive in identifying opportunities for growth and improvement, and confident communicating ideas through both written deliverables and client engagement. Your collaborative approach and ability to think creatively and strategically will see you succeed in this role.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in climate change, sustainability, environmental engineering, environmental science or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in sustainability, environmental or climate resilience consulting.
  • Experience leading or delivering multidisciplinary projects while meeting project objectives, budgets and timeframes.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate options and provide strategic advice to clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong client relationships, anticipate client needs and identify opportunities to create additional value.
  • Experience developing or applying innovative approaches, digital tools or emerging practices to improve client outcomes and project delivery.
  • A proactive approach to business development, thought leadership and staying abreast of emerging industry trends, opportunities and challenges.
  • These qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don't tick every box, you could still be a great fit for our team.
  • Why you’ll love working with us
  • Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, part-time, job-sharing and hybrid work options
  • Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
  • Swap public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
  • Continuous learning and growth - lunch and learns, professional development courses, financial study assistance, 5 days paid study leave, global career opportunities
