About The Role

NBCUniversal seeks a dynamic Senior Manager, State and Local Public Policy to support the company’s state and local government affairs efforts. The Senior Manager will be focused on identifying and analyzing legislation, policies, regulations, and policy programs aligned with or harmful to the company's strategic corporate and/or business interests. The Senior Manager will actively contribute to shaping policy during the legislative process and will contribute to building trusted relationships with government officials to lead to meaningful legislative outcomes. Additionally, the position will identify and advance opportunities to enhance NBCUniversal’s visibility and reputation at the state and local levels, reinforcing the company’s standing as a trusted source of news, information, and premier entertainment. This role will report to the SVP, Government Affairs and Head of Public Policy.

With the department’s 50-state mandate in mind, teamwork is not an aspirational concept, but the standard operating procedure embraced by the department. The Senior Manager should be collaborating with department colleagues to properly fulfill the core “early warning” mission. The Senior Manager is expected to efficiently identify relevant bills from a high volume of legislation and policy proposals introduced each year in the state legislatures and localities.

The Senior Manager should also exhibit sound judgement, discretion, and interpersonal skills when working with internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Manager will work with the Public Policy team in designing an advocacy plan and will be responsible for the plan’s execution.

Responsibilities

  • Management and Advocacy
  • Research, monitor, track and analyze current or proposed state legislation, regulations, and policies that involve privacy and workforce/labor issues
  • Work closely with NBCU’s consultants and industry partners
  • Advance the company’s policy priorities with relevant trade associations and advocacy groups
  • Government Relations
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with relevant government officials, including legislative offices, industry partners and thought leaders in the states and cities, to influence public discourse in support of company interests
  • Manage initiatives that would enhance the company’s relationships with policymakers and political leaders
  • Design plans for government outreach and thought leadership
  • Gather political intelligence and draft position papers, policy briefings, presentations, and other materials in preparation for government actions
  • Senior Management Support
  • Prepare “real time” updates on relevant political, legislative, and regulatory developments affecting NBCUniversal’s business activities in the state and local level
  • Prepare communications, including briefing material and policy recommendations, to senior executives in the event they are part of strategic advocacy planning
  • Provide support to senior management in the company’s political engagement program

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with solid academic credentials
  • 4+ years of multi-state public policy experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in the entertainment, media, or tourism sectors preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of state and local policy making processes
  • Experience working directly with senior executives and government officials
  • Successful track record of developing advocacy strategy and advancing policy initiatives with trade associations and other third-party groups
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills to translate complex policy into clear, concise summaries of issues and business impacts, to NBCUniversal business and functional leaders as well as lawmakers

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the New York, NY office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $100,000 - $130,000 (bonus eligible)
