What We Need
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the field execution of mission critical and data center construction projects nationwide. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a traveling position, can establish strong on-site leadership quickly, and have extensive experience managing complex MEP systems, critical infrastructure, commissioning activities, and high-performance building environments. Candidates must be comfortable remaining on-site for the full duration of each project and leading projects where schedule certainty, quality, safety, and operational continuity are paramount. This position is based out of our Chicago office; however, due to the extensive travel requirements, candidates are not required to reside in Kansas City, Missouri, but must be willing to travel there weekly.
What You'll Do
Leadership, Collaboration & Professional Development

- Build confidence in interviewing, presenting, and pitching to prospective clients
Provide mentorship, oversight, and support to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Coordinators
- Lead onboarding and training for new team members; present ongoing process improvement and best-practice trainings
- Deliver performance feedback and contribute to formal reviews for direct reports
- Delegate effectively, oversee workload balance, and ensure follow-through on all delegated tasks through completion
- Maintain proactive, clear, and professional communication with project partners, preferring verbal outreach followed by written documentation
- Demonstrate autonomy in managing project issues by presenting both the problem and potential solutions; escalate to Team Lead only as needed
- Foster a positive, accountable team environment—celebrating team successes and taking ownership of challenges
Business, Financial & Operational Effectiveness
- Participate in the prime contract process, including negotiation and alignment with company standards, with oversight from your Team Lead
- Lead Trade Partner selection, interviews, awards, and buyouts
- Lead creation of Scopes of Work, Exhibit A documents, and the Schedule of Values for all Work Orders
- Monitor project financial performance: oversee budgets, manage contingency, allowances, and general requirements, and ensure alignment with profit goals
- Ensure timely delivery of accounting questionnaires, pencil draw submissions, and change order/claims approvals
- Manage claims, financial reconciliation, and closeout processes, including contingency resolution and Day 2 work planning
- Provide accurate and timely pricing to clients for Change Orders, Day 2 work, and Service work
- Maintain organized financial tracking and documentation to support transparency and accuracy throughout the project lifecycle
Project Management, Coordination, & Execution
- Prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks, ensuring each receives appropriate attention and alignment with Team Lead on critical decisions
- Lead initial project setup, including permitting, project folder creation, and schedule development in partnership with the Superintendent
- Coordinate and run kickoff meetings to align team members on expectations, procurement strategy, schedule, profit targets, and responsibilities
- Maintain comprehensive awareness of project milestones, deliverables, and critical path items
- Lead OAC meetings, delegating agenda and minute preparation while ensuring accuracy, alignment, and thorough documentation
- Maintain detailed and organized documentation during project pursuits and execution to ensure full team alignment
- Set and monitor hard deadlines with trade partners for claims, change orders, and pencil values
- Provide strategic oversight of field teams, trade partners, and vendors, ensuring alignment with project goals
- Build and maintain a strong PM–Superintendent partnership, ensuring field teams are set up for success and project commitments are delivered as promised
- Facilitate punch list completion, quality control, and project closeout
- Lead final project debriefs and lessons-learned sessions; share insights with the broader company
Technical Effectiveness & Quality
- Take full ownership of project delivery, including drawing and construction document review, RFIs, and submittal management
- Maintain proficiency in project management and scheduling software; continuously seek ways to improve efficiency and support training of junior staff
- Ensure consistent organization of project communication, documentation, and workflows across all platforms
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of construction processes, drawings, documents, RFIs, and submittals
- Apply strong attention to detail and quality control across all project documentation and execution
- Maintain knowledge of permitting workflows and project setup procedures
Demonstrate proficiency in scheduling concepts and critical path awareness
Leadership, Collaboration & Professional Development

- Site coverage for superintendents as needed
- Manage Day 2 items with oversight from Project Manager
- Maintain a positive, proactive attitude
- Clear, direct, consistent verbal and written communication with trade partners, project partners, and project team
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource and mentor to PE I team members and Project Coordinators, actively supporting their development and day-to-day problem solving.
- Recognize and address team or trade partner conflicts early, applying sound judgment and effective communication to resolve issues and maintain productive working relationships.
- Communicate challenging or unfavorable information in a timely, professional, and solution-oriented manner, ensuring transparency while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
Business, Financial & Operational Effectiveness
- Manage MSA/work order process once values and scopes are approved by PM & Team Lead
- Create and manage procurement log, including weekly and twice-weekly follow-ups with trade partners and email documentation
- Create commitments and COs in Procore with PM oversight and approval
- Reconcile financials in Procore each month prior to pencil submission to Accounting with PM oversight and approval
- Full ability to manage financial master in Procore
- Full understanding of pencil draw and pay application process
- Demonstrated understanding of estimating processes and best practices, with the ability to support the preparation of competitive bids under appropriate supervision.
- Manage Invite To Bid (ITB) process and corresponding documentation
- Working knowledge of estimating processes and practices, with the ability to develop strong proficiency.
- Take ownership of urgent issues and demonstrate the confidence to promptly address identified issues
Project Management, Coordination, & Execution
- Effectively support multiple concurrent projects, demonstrating the ability to manage increased workload and complexity (typically contributing across 3–4 projects, depending on size and scope).
- Assist with set up of project folders & template documents
- Assist with permit process and permit corrections
- Set up new projects in Procore
- Create electronic Superintendent Binder in Procore
- Create OAC agendas, reviewed by PM
- Document all meetings, including but not limited to OAC meetings, coordination meetings, building and client kick-off meetings, and on-site walkthroughs.
- Manage the submittal and procurement process with PM oversight, maintaining an accurate and up-to-date weekly submittal and procurement log.
- Prepare clear, comprehensive, and properly structured RFIs with PM oversight
- Manage Day 2 items with oversight from Project Manager
- Manage closeout documentation in Procore, distribute to the Owner, schedule and document end user training, while providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight to the Project Coordinator to ensure completion within the project closeout month.
- Assist with punch list documentation; iPad management on site during punch
- Develop accurate project schedules with PM oversight
- Ability to distribute project documentation to and from all relevant parties in a timely fashion, best practice is 24 hours (Examples: Partition Layout Notes, Box Walk Notes, Above Ceiling Layout, Above Ceiling Punch, etc.)
- Demonstrate accountability by proactively and consistently communicating with partners without the need for PM reminders.
- Ability to run meetings confidently both virtually and in-person
Technical Effectiveness & Quality
- Set up new projects in Procore
- Manage Procore data management; submittals, RFIs, drawing sets, directory management, and punch list tasks
- Demonstrates a foundational understanding of the role and responsibilities of each trade within the construction process.
- Thorough understanding of construction drawings and document review process
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a Project Manager with significant experience delivering mission critical, data center, high-tech, or complex MEP-intensive projects
- Experience working within active data centers or operational facilities requiring strict uptime requirements preferred
- Strong professional communication skills with clients, design teams, commissioning agents, trade partners, facility operators, and internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated proactive problem-solving skills, including early identification of design, constructability, and coordination issues during preconstruction and active construction phases
- Comfortable representing the company in client presentations, interviews, and pursuit efforts
- Ability to mentor, coach, and support junior staff, contributing to overall team development and consistency across traveling projects
- Ability to work flexible schedules and weekends, along with extended stays away from home
- Willingness to travel to Kansas City, Missouri for the duration of the project (approximately 6 months)
