Transmission Line Access Road Inspector

We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) in Sammamish, WA to provide construction inspection and quality assurance oversight for transmission line access road construction and rehabilitation projects. Acting as the owner’s representative, you will verify contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, environmental requirements, and contract standards while maintaining accurate project documentation.

The ideal candidate has experience in heavy civil construction, roadway inspection, or utility infrastructure and is comfortable working independently in remote locations while communicating effectively with contractors and project stakeholders.

Essential Responsibilities

Construction Inspection

  • Perform daily inspections of transmission line access road construction and rehabilitation projects.
  • Verify compliance with contract plans, specifications, permits, environmental requirements, and applicable

standards.

  • Inspect work including:
  • Clearing and grubbing
  • Earthwork, grading, excavation, and embankments
  • Aggregate placement, surfacing, and compaction
  • Culverts, drainage improvements, water bars, and rolling dips
  • Retaining structures, slope stabilization, and slide repairs
  • Gates, fencing, and site restoration

Quality Assurance and Documentation

  • Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements.
  • Review contractor quality control documentation, testing, and material certifications.
  • Identify and document non-conforming work and monitor corrective actions through completion.
  • Maintain complete project records, including:
  • Daily inspection reports and photographs
  • Quantity tracking
  • Contractor manpower and equipment logs
  • Weather and material delivery records
  • Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs
  • Punch lists and project closeout documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in construction inspection, quality assurance, or heavy civil construction.

  • Experience inspecting roadway, grading, earthwork, or utility infrastructure projects.

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and survey information.
  • -
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and documentation skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured on company's car insurance.
  • -
  • Ability to travel throughout project areas east of the Seattle metropolitan area.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in

  • Transmission line access road construction
  • Heavy civil or utility infrastructure construction
  • Forest roads, aggregate surfacing, culvert replacement, and drainage improvements
  • Federal construction projects
  • Environmental compliance inspection
  • Construction quality management
  • Procore or other electronic construction management/reporting systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk construction sites and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas when necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Operate four-wheel-drive vehicles when authorized.

Travel Requirements

  • Frequent travel to project sites is required.
  • Overnight travel and flexible work schedules may be necessary based on project demands.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.

US Pay Range

$46 — $58 USD

Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefit package including access to our company-sponsored Medical (including an HSA High Deductible option), Dental, Vision, FSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. We also offer 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401(k) plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees receive paid vacation and sick time, 11 paid holidays, and are able to participate in employee ownership options. MacKay pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual performance bonuses.
