Lead Building Automation Systems (BAS) Installer

About The Role
Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate the daily activities of BAS installation technicians and subcontractors on assigned projects.
- Plan and organize daily work activities to ensure project schedules and milestones are achieved.
- Install building automation system components, including controllers, sensors, actuators, control panels, conduit, and associated devices.
- Install, terminate, label, and test low-voltage wiring and communication networks for BAS systems.
- Read and interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, electricians, HVAC installers, and other trades to maintain project schedules.
- Perform point-to-point verification, equipment checkout, and assist with system startup prior to commissioning.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, electrical codes, and company quality standards.
- Identify installation issues and implement effective solutions to minimize project delays.
- Maintain accurate red-line drawings, daily reports, material usage, and project documentation.
- Track material inventory and communicate project supply needs.
- Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to BAS installers and apprentices.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, testing equipment, and job sites in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Travel to customer and project sites throughout Central Indiana, including overnight travel as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise BAS installation crews on assigned projects.
- Assign daily work responsibilities and monitor crew productivity.
- Train, coach, and mentor installers and apprentices.
- Monitor installation quality and ensure adherence to company standards.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the installation team.
- Assist project management by providing updates on project progress, manpower needs, and field challenges.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge of commercial building automation systems and HVAC controls.
- Experience installing BAS platforms, including Niagara and Honeywell N4 systems.
- Thorough understanding of low-voltage electrical systems, DDC controllers, relays, sensors, actuators, and communication networks.
- Ability to read and interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and project specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead field installation crews.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
- Commitment to producing high-quality workmanship while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Proficiency using electrical testing equipment and hand tools.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of commercial BAS or HVAC controls installation experience .
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience leading installation crews or serving as a field lead or foreman .
- Experience with Niagara Framework and Honeywell N4 systems required.
- Niagara N4 Certification preferred.
- OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Experience with commercial HVAC systems, networking, and controls integration preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and overhead work.
- Ability to work on rooftops, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, construction sites, and varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
- Must possess the ability to adjust focus for close-up work, with or without correction.
- Ability to travel throughout Central Indiana, including up to 25% overnight travel as project schedules require.
