Awanui Labs - Dunedin (previously known as SCL) provides high quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, healthcare professionals and their patients. Awanui labs - Dunedin is owned by Awanui Group (Previously known as Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.

Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Phlebotomist to join our Patient Services Department at our Dunedin Laboratory. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality care and service to our patients, making a real difference in the community.

This is a casual role, with shifts offered on a leave cover basis as and when required. Successful applicants will need to be available across weekdays and weekends.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive, professional team environment while contributing meaningfully to patient care and laboratory services.

Responsibilities include

  • Blood collection, responsible for handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, and tissue, and preparing specimens for transportation.
  • Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.

  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to manage a demanding, fast-paced environment while maintaining strong self-management and time-management skills.
  • Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Patient Services is desirable, but not essential.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified
