THE ROLE
This Cataloguer role will provide overall support to the Jewellery Department, including but not limited to sales, customer relations, catalogue production and administration while improving technical expertise in the field of Jewellery.
The Cataloguer shall gradually develop skills to undertake new business generation and for the sourcing, authentication, evaluation and sale of property over time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To assist in cataloguing and researching items for sales
- Assisting the senior members of the Jewellery Department with the research and cataloguing of items to the highest standard according to scheduled deadlines
- Corresponding with external experts
To Involve in all aspects of catalogue production including
Translate all English Catalogues into Chinese and vice versa
Proof-read catalogue texts
Assist with layouts and photography
To provide a comprehensive level of services to Sotheby’s clients e.g. providing exemplary levels of service both verbal and written communication, responding swiftly and accurately to estimate enquiries, photo-forms and general correspondence etc.
To prepare and translate condition reports
To assist in pre-sale and post-sale activities
To support the Jewellery Department on all ad-hoc assignments
To operate always in accordance with the company’s rules on compliance and corporate governance
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- University graduate with translation or language major preferred
- Coming from a high jewellery background is an advantage; GIA qualification preferred
- Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese with excellent written skills in English and Chinese is essential
- Computer literate (excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Good research skills; thorough organizational ability and a good eye for detail
- Ability to work well under pressure, and a flexible approach to a wide range of tasks
- Self-motivated with enthusiasm to learn
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to an exemplary level of client service
