Position Summary

The Division of University Communications at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of University Communications in Boca Raton, FL.

The Division of University Communications functions as an internal agency that works to enhance the University's public image, strengthen the FAU brand, and help our colleagues tell the story of their individual units in a professional and impactful manner. The Assistant Director combines strategic marketing, exceptional writing and editing, project management, and brand strategy to support university-wide and college-level initiatives.

Summary or Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing, Writing, and Editing

  • Assisting in developing and executing marketing and communications strategies supporting university priorities, college initiatives, and undergraduate enrollment.
  • Write and edit compelling copy for email, SMS, print, web, paid advertising, social media, event materials, and other platforms.
  • Write scripts for radio, television, video, and other multimedia communications.
  • Assist in developing messaging that effectively communicates the university’s academic programs, research, achievements, events, and strategic priorities.
  • Assist in developing advertising strategies and support media planning and advertising buys across print, digital, outdoor, broadcast, and other channels.
  • Collaborate with communications, editorial, digital and creative colleagues on integrated marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Support internal communications, including newsletters and employee-facing materials.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for university events and initiatives.

Project Management

  • Serve as a liaison for marketing design requests, clarifying project scope, priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Manage marketing and communications projects from intake through completion, coordinating internal teams and external vendors.
  • Monitor project timelines, provide regular status updates, and ensure projects remain on schedule and within scope.
  • Support prioritization and workflow management in alignment with departmental goals and strategic priorities.
  • Coordinate advertising calendars, creative submissions, production schedules, and deadlines.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail.

Brand Strategy and Management

  • Support the development and implementation of the university brand strategy and initiatives.
  • Help ensure consistency in university messaging, visual identity, and brand positioning.
  • Serve as a resource to colleges and departments on brand standards, messaging, and marketing best practices.
  • Apply a strong understanding of brand systems and visual identity standards across marketing and communications projects.

Advertising, Budget, and External Relations

  • Research and recommend media opportunities based on campaign objectives, audiences, and budgets.
  • Coordinate advertising placements, vendors, creative submissions, and production schedules.
  • Assist with marketing and advertising budget management, including tracking expenditures, invoices, and purchase orders.
  • Assist with evaluating advertising effectiveness and making recommendations to improve campaign performance.
  • Coordinate the ordering and distribution of university promotional items and branded materials.
  • Manage relationships with community organizations and external partners to support university visibility and engagement.
  • Support event promotion and community engagement initiatives.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor, strategic thinker, strong communicator and highly organized project manager who can manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced environment.

$65,000-$70,000 Annually
