Avantor is seeking a Sales Representative to support a strategically important higher education territory across the DMV region , including key university accounts such as University of Maryland College Park, George Mason University, Howard University, Georgetown University, and George Washington University.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded, relationship-oriented professional who enjoys building customer partnerships, identifying growth opportunities, and working within dynamic research and academic environments. We welcome candidates from a variety of customer-facing and commercial backgrounds, including sales, account management, customer success, business development, laboratory operations, research support, and scientific services.

In this field-based role, you will develop and execute account strategies, expand Avantor's presence across university campuses, strengthen customer relationships, and drive revenue growth. Success will be built on meaningful customer engagement, strong business acumen, consultative selling, and the ability to navigate complex purchasing environments involving multiple stakeholders.

This individual must reside within close proximity to the DMV area and be able to regularly support customers throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: College degree or equivalent/applicable experience
  • Experience : Prefer 2-5 years of experience working in a complex sales environment, where multiple people are involved in the purchasing decision and there is a solution based selling approach
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations minimum 4 days a week
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a laboratory, research, scientific, higher education, or distribution environment is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline preferred
  • Excellent communication and team interaction skills, routinely interacting with customers, manufacturers, and staff
  • Ability to carry on a business conversation with business owners and decision makers
  • Ability to work independently and successfully manage time and territory
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to sell strategically within an account
  • Ability to understand individual customer operations

  • Comfortable using CRM systems, Excel, and other tools to manage pipelines, track activity, and analyze account performance
  • Consultative in your approach, helping customers identify solutions that support their goals
  • Creative and proactive in generating engagement opportunities and uncovering new business
  • Organized, self-motivated, and capable of balancing multiple priorities
  • Strong communicator who collaborates effectively with customers, manufacturers, and internal teams
  • Resilient and adaptable when navigating challenges, competition, and changing customer needs

How You Will Thrive and Create an Impact

  • Own and grow Avantor's presence across a strategic DMV higher education territory
  • Build and strengthen customer relationships across laboratories, departments, research programs, and procurement organizations
  • Develop and execute territory and account strategies that protect existing business while driving incremental growth
  • Identify and pursue competitive conversion opportunities, contract utilization opportunities, and new revenue streams
  • Analyze customer purchasing trends and account data to uncover growth opportunities
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline through proactive territory planning and customer engagement
  • Partner with customers to understand challenges and recommend solutions that support their research and operational goals
  • Collaborate with internal specialists and business partners to deliver a best-in-class customer experience
  • Leverage manufacturer partnerships to support product education, promotions, and growth initiatives
  • Support onboarding of new labs, researchers, and programs by helping customers navigate products, services, and purchasing processes
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and support reporting, forecasting, and account planning activities
  • Represent Avantor as a trusted partner within a complex and highly collaborative academic research environment

Pay Transparency

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$59,150.00 - $100,740.00

This reflects base salary.

This position is subject to incentive compensation, where the expected pre-tax Target Cash Opportunity (“TCO”) for this position is based on the achieved sales and in the amount/range of,

$98,600.00 - $167,900.00

Actual Pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and eligible geographic location.

TCO is defined as Base Salary + Target Sales Incentive (Sales Incentive eligible role only).
