Position Summary

The Deputy Chief Security Officer supports the Chief Security Officer in the development and execution of the NBA's global security program, serving as the second-in-command for all security operations. This role is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of personal and physical security across NBA games, events, and business activities domestically and internationally. The Deputy Chief Security Officer leads the implementation of crisis management protocols, and global intelligence strategies. This leader manages security teams and vendor relationships while ensuring operational readiness across all leagues and events. The role also serves as acting Chief Security Officer in the absence of the CSO, representing the department to senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Security Officer in developing and executing the NBA's enterprise-wide security strategy, including personal and physical security for all games, events, and business activities domestically and internationally
  • Lead venue-specific security teams, providing direction, oversight, and accountability to ensure consistent security standards across all locations
  • Oversee security planning and operations for high-profile events, including League-wide events such as All-Star, encompassing contingency planning and full logistical coordination
  • Manage and maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies, emergency agencies, Federal Government partners, and other task forces on security threats, maintaining ongoing communications with teams
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to proactively identify and address security vulnerabilities across arenas, venues, and business operations
  • Monitor emerging threats and adjust the organization's security posture accordingly, ensuring proactive and adaptive responses to evolving risks
  • Manage relationships with internal clients and external vendors; monitor threat and risk activity for executives, special events, and other groups including players and referees
  • Ensure NBA security operations remain best-in-class across the industry while continuously evolving with global business needs
  • Ensure full compliance with all national and international laws, regulations, professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal policies, in alignment with industry standards and best practices
  • Assist in overseeing player investigations and support the management of special investigations, communicating results and recommending solutions as needed
  • Support the training and development of security personnel through maintained training programs and contribution to the formulation of security policies
  • Serve as acting Chief Security Officer in the absence of the CSO, representing the department to senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility to travel as needed, including both scheduled and unplanned escalations

Skills

  • Broad and current knowledge of the security industry, including evolving trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Proven track record of supporting or leading security operations at a senior level, including managing internal teams and external vendor relationships
  • Effective communicator capable of conveying security-related concepts to a broad range of internal and external constituents
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple lines of business, departments, and functions
  • Recognized security expert with credibility within the broader security community
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to assess complex security scenarios and recommend sound, actionable solutions
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Skilled at operating in high-pressure environments with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism

Required Work Experience

  • 15+ years of demonstrated experience in security operations; prior experience with a Law Enforcement Agency and/or Corporate Security in the private sector strongly preferred

Required Education

  • BA/BS required

Salary Range

$375,000-$425,000
