About The Role

Job Summary

The Senior Operations Geologist’s primary responsibility is planning, coordinating, monitoring and reporting all geologic and geosteering activities for one or more horizontal drilling rigs in assets operated by Continental Resources. In addition, the Senior Operations Geologist is expected to work in conjunction with the exploration, geophysical, and asset teams to prepare for future development and exploration projects throughout the company's operational areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Detailed planning to create geological prognoses for permitting and drilling of horizontal wells
  • Collaboration with exploration and development geologists to support the asset team with correlations, mapping and prospecting
  • Collaboration with geophysical staff, incorporating seismic data into well planning, hazard mitigation, and risk assessment
  • Geosteering of horizontal wells utilizing StarSteer or similar software, incorporating all available data for efficient and informed decision-making
  • Integration with broader asset team to collaborate and optimize geologic operations with technical teams including but not limited to completitons and production engineering
  • Oversight and frequent communication with mud loggers and remote geosteering teams
  • Communication and collaboration with drilling engineering and directional drilling teams
  • Post-drill assessment of hazards and learnings to improve operational efficiency and safety
  • Ability to leverage available AI tools to innovate and strengthen operational performance
  • 24/7 availability by phone and email to support ongoing operations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Geoscience or Earth Sciences from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent geosteering experience
  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent experience with an active exploration and production company preferred
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Geology and/or Geophysics, Physics or Mathematics.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
