We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Government Services team in Vallejo. In this role, you will review and evaluate engineering plans, specifications, technical reports, and supporting documents submitted for a wide range of public and private development projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and a thorough understanding of design standards, regulatory requirements, and permitting processes.

Responsibilities

Review civil engineering improvement plans to ensure conformance with agency standards, ordinances, project conditions of approval, and industry practice
Review grading and drainage plans for various compliance conditions
Review storm drain plans and hydrology/hydraulic calculations and reports for various compliance conditions
Review water, sewer and dry utility plans for various compliance conditions
Perform complex engineering calculations and analyses to check engineering calculations provided by applicants.
Resolve problems related to local city codes and city specifications in order to bring drawings and specifications into compliance
Coordinate with Surveyors regarding tentative maps and/or land development applications for conformance with agency standards (entitlement process)
Review and manage Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPs) and post-construction Stormwater Runoff Management Plans for various projects, and other functions to comply with State and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements
Review studies related to the Floodplain Management Program
Assist in establishing and/or revising departmental policies due to changes in methods of construction or field applications of codes; Trains staff in application of new codes, policies, and procedures
Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Bachelor’s of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
5+ years of progressively responsible work in public works or a related setting.
Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, engineers, builders, inspectors, and the general public.
Must have the ability to communicate to train staff.
Role requires 10-30% of travel time

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.

Benefits

The typical base salary range for this position is $105,000.00- $128,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
