About The Role
Join Our Team as a Technical Sales Specialist supporting Tissue Converting: Drive growth opportunities in the Tissue Converting Industry.
The Technical Sales Specialist is a customer-facing technical sales professional responsible for driving growth of Valmet's Tissue Converting machine upgrades business throughout North America. This position serves as the primary technical resource for assigned customer accounts, identifying, developing, and securing machine upgrade opportunities that improve customer productivity, reliability, safety, quality, and operational performance.
Reporting directly to the Manager, Tissue Converting Services North America, the Technical Sales Specialist works closely with customers, engineering, field service personnel, sales teams, and global product experts to develop technical solutions and create competitive upgrade proposals. This role leads the quotation process from opportunity identification through proposal submission and order acquisition while maintaining ownership of the sales pipeline and revenue forecast.
Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge of tissue converting equipment, exceptional customer relationship skills, and the ability to translate customer challenges into value-driven upgrade solutions.
Responsibilities
Customer Development & Sales
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with assigned customer accounts throughout North America.
- Identify, develop, and close machine upgrade opportunities for tissue converting equipment.
- Conduct customer meetings through in-person visits, Teams meetings, phone calls, and other communication channels.
Opportunity Management
- Maintain and manage sales opportunities within CRM systems.
- Develop and maintain accurate revenue forecasts and pipeline visibility.
- Track opportunity status, probability of closure, and expected revenue.
Technical Assessments & Audits
- Identify equipment improvement opportunities.
- Review existing machine configuration and evaluate upgrade possibilities.
- Work directly with customer technical, maintenance, engineering, and operations personnel to identify opportunities for improvement.
Proposal Development
- Lead the quotation and proposal development process.
- Coordinate engineering resources to develop technical solutions and cost estimates.
- Define project scope, technical requirements, timelines, and commercial proposals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Technical Service, Product Management, and Global Support Teams.
- Collaborate with field service personnel to identify upgrade opportunities discovered during customer visits.
- Support project handoff and transition activities following order receipt.
- Share market insights, customer feedback, and competitive information with internal teams.
Required Qualifications
- Strong technical knowledge of tissue converting machinery and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to understand and discuss mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, and process-related machine systems.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and machine documentation.
- Strong customer relationship and consultative selling skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems.
- Ability to travel up to 20% throughout North America.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in a technical discipline highly desired.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
- Prior field service experience within the tissue converting industry.
- Experience developing technical quotations, proposals, and cost estimates.
