Job Summary
The Civil/Mechanical Equipment Operator at Primoris Renewable Energy will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy equipment on desert PV solar project sites, specifically without driving equipment on public roads. This role supports the construction and installation of solar infrastructure, ensuring tasks are completed according to project specifications and safety protocols.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy civil and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to, excavators, loaders, dozers, compactors, forklifts, and rough terrain telehandlers on solar project sites.
- Perform pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on assigned equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Load, unload, and move materials such as aggregate, soil, solar panels, racking components, and structural steel within the project site.
- Assist in the grading, leveling, and excavation of project sites for foundation work and infrastructure installation.
- Support the installation of solar racking systems, panel arrays, and other mechanical components by positioning materials and providing equipment assistance.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as site-specific safety plans.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, foremen, and other team members regarding project progress, equipment status, and potential issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, both around the equipment and on the job site.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or safety concerns immediately to the appropriate personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the solar project.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience operating heavy civil and mechanical equipment in a construction or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience operating equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, compactors, forklifts, and/or rough terrain telehandlers.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Strong understanding of equipment operation safety procedures and best practices.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor as needed, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and stooping for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, as required by project schedules.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Previous experience on solar construction sites is a plus.
- Certification for specific equipment operation is preferred.
