KYC Operations Associate

About The Role

About the role

Every dollar that moves through AngelList starts with a verified investor. KYC is not a back-office checkbox here; it sits on the critical path of every close, and it has to be fast enough that investors feel no friction and rigorous enough to defend to an auditor. We're hiring a KYC Operations Associate to help own that standard.

This is not your typical KYC analyst role. You're joining as an operator at a technology company with broad scope: you'll work the queue alongside the team, serve as the subject matter expert others rely on, and push improvements upstream, partnering with engineering on product changes and with compliance on policy. The tools you use today may be completely different tomorrow, and you'll help drive that change rather than absorb it.

This is a full-time role reporting to an Operations Manager on our banking operations team. It suits someone who is high ownership, precise by default, operates independently, and wants to become the kind of KYC/AML expert this industry has few of.

Responsibilities

Run KYC/KYB/CDD reviews end to end. Verify individual and entity investors, including identity, beneficial ownership, and sanctions/PEP/adverse media screening, accurately and within SLA, through volume spikes.

Make the hard calls. Disposition screening hits and layered ownership structures, escalate cases needing enhanced due diligence, and document every decision well enough that an auditor could reconstruct it.

Be the expert. Serve as a consistent, reliable KYC resource for internal teams and external stakeholders, with answers people can build on.

Fix the system. Turn queue pain points into shipped product improvements with engineering and adapt to compliance policy changes.

Design the system that replaces the queue. Build agents and automations against real KYC volume, watch where they fail, and iterate. You'll be expected to contribute to architecting this, not adopting it.

You may be a good fit if you

have 3+ years in KYC/AML operations, customer due diligence, or financial compliance at a fintech, bank, or fund administrator, with working fluency in CIP, CDD/EDD, beneficial ownership, and sanctions/PEP screening

are precise by default; mistakes in this work touch sensitive data and real money, and you catch your own before anyone else has to

can work a high-volume queue without your accuracy eroding, and write decisions an auditor could follow

operate independently with broad scope, and don't need a fully defined lane to be effective

are energized rather than unsettled when the tools change under you

you reach for automation before you reach for a checklist and you have a point of view on how AI changes this work.
