Senior Director, Business Architecture and Innovation
IA Financial Services Inc. · Montreal, QC, Canada
About The Role
Senior Director, Business Architecture and Innovation
CTO Office – Information Technology Vice-Presidency (ITVP)
Build the Future with Us
Position Context
At a time when emerging technologies, new delivery models, and evolving customer expectations are reshaping financial services, the Information Technology Vice-Presidency is seeking to strengthen, within the CTO Office, its ability to connect corporate strategy, business capabilities, and transformation roadmaps.
Reporting to the CTO Office, the Senior Director, Business Architecture and Innovation plays a critical role in turning emerging signals into tangible impacts, actionable roadmaps, and meaningful experiments for the organization. The incumbent embodies an outward-looking CTO perspective, helping guide transformation decisions in close collaboration with business sectors, without replacing business leaders in defining business models or making business investment decisions.
Your Mission
The Senior Director, Business Architecture and Innovation is responsible for leading a comprehensive and coherent enterprise business architecture that supports the corporate strategy and organizational transformation initiatives. Acting as both a strategic advisor and a bridge-builder between strategy, business capabilities, and execution, the incumbent monitors emerging trends, evaluates their relevance to iA, proposes evolution roadmaps, and structures experiments that test today what could transform the organization tomorrow.
In complement to the Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture, this role is responsible for business capabilities and value stream architecture, while the other role oversees enterprise technology directions, principles, and architectures.
What You Will Accomplish with Us
Business Architecture
- Define and maintain an enterprise-wide business architecture vision encompassing business capabilities, value streams, key processes, and transformation initiatives.
- Anticipate the evolution of business capabilities required to support organizational growth and operational efficiency, identify gaps with current capabilities, and guide the paths needed to develop them.
- Develop and maintain, in collaboration with business sectors and key stakeholders, business architecture roadmaps that connect corporate strategy, business capabilities, and execution.
- Ensure alignment among sector priorities, enterprise capabilities, and transformation roadmaps while supporting strategic trade-offs and key decisions.
- Define business architecture standards, artifacts, tools, approaches, and methodologies to support consistent, comparable, and decision-oriented architectural viewpoints across iA.
- Contribute, when required, to executive narratives supporting transformation initiatives presented to decision-making bodies.
Strategic Foresight and Innovation
- Maintain an active watch on technological, competitive, societal, and organizational trends that may influence the future of financial services.
- Identify emerging signals and translate their implications for business capabilities, processes, and target architectures to inform organizational transformation decisions.
- Translate observed trends into tangible impacts on business capabilities, processes, platforms, and enterprise transformation priorities.
- Contribute to assessing the impact of artificial intelligence and autonomous agents on business capabilities.
Translating Strategy into Capabilities and Execution
- Translate strategic directions into business capabilities, transformation roadmaps, implementation paths, and tangible outcomes that can be leveraged by business sectors and the Project Office.
- Ensure alignment between corporate strategy, business priorities, organizational capabilities, investments, and transformation initiatives.
- Act as a bridge between business leaders, IT teams, and the Project Office to ensure strategic ambitions are translated into executable and clearly understood transformation roadmaps.
Strategy, Business, and Technology Convergence
- Serve as the architectural connection point between strategic priorities, emerging trends, business capabilities, and financial services.
- Foster a shared understanding among business leaders, IT teams, the Project Office, and partners.
- Contribute to aligning business, data, technology, and innovation strategies in collaboration with enterprise architecture, without duplicating its role in technology foundations.
- Work closely with the Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture to align business and innovation roadmaps with iAFG’s IT strategy led by Enterprise Architecture.
- Collaborate with the leader responsible for Business Models and Business Intelligence by providing a business architecture perspective (capabilities, value streams, and transformation paths) that supports value creation hypotheses, without assuming responsibility for business model design or investment decisions.
Strategic Alignment and Architectural Positioning
- Ensure alignment between corporate strategy, business capabilities, and business architecture decisions.
- Provide business architecture recommendations and contribute to strategic initiatives presented to the CTO and executive leadership, making impacts, dependencies, and options visible.
- Support decision-making by clarifying gaps between strategic ambitions, current capabilities, impacts, dependencies, and implementation options.
Leadership and Team Development
- Provide strong leadership to directors and teams through clear direction, senior expertise, and empowerment.
- Bring stakeholders together around a common understanding of emerging trends, transformation priorities, and experimentation initiatives.
