Job Description

We are looking for a consumer-driven Senior Scientist in Skin & Hair Follicle Physiology to help shape the future of Philips Grooming & Beauty innovations backed by a strong scientific foundation. You will bring deep expertise in skin physiology, skin aging and rejuvenation science as well as hair follicle physiology/biology, scalp and skin; and its interaction with energy-based interventions and topicals. In this role, you translate this expertise into meaningful consumer applications, evidence logic, claims and innovation opportunities across devices, energy-based interventions, topicals and combinations thereof. You support breakthrough Front End Innovation explorations across G&B.

The Senior Scientist drives impactful innovations to support Philips growth through research with scientific depth and strong application understanding, working under minimal supervision. The role contributes to meaningful innovations, intellectual property and knowledge transfers with a focus on skin and hair follicle physiology, skin aging, skin/hair rejuvenation, skin/scalp/follicle response to energy and topicals, topical/device response, evidence generation and consumer-relevant product and proposition translation. The role acts as a trusted source of information across skin and hair follicle physiology, influencing multiple G&B roadmaps through consultative input and strategic guidance. The role collaborates with internal scientists, business stakeholders, clinical and external experts to translate emerging technologies, signals and value opportunities into actionable Philips propositions and scientifically credible innovation choices.

Your role

  • Initiates internal/external research in skin physiology, aging, rejuvenation, barrier/dermal response, hair follicle physiology and scalp/skin response to enable meaningful science-led beauty innovations.
  • Translates skin and follicle physiology into consumer concepts, experimental plans, evidence logic, claims, outcomes and validation methods.
  • Provides scientific input for short- and mid-term assessments: plausibility, partners/technologies, evidence gaps, claims and risks.
  • Builds expertise in optical, thermal, mechanical and other energy-skin/follicle interactions, including photobiomodulation; light- or energy-based intervention experience is a strong plus.
  • Works with simulation/modeling experts to interpret, apply and build models for skin/hair physiology, follicle response and energy/topical interactions; experience with models/simulations is preferred.
  • Maintains practitioner-level topical expertise, especially actives, delivery system, device- and energy-based combinations.
  • Drives meaningful innovations, IP, assessments, documentation, knowledge transfer and scientific substantiation.
  • Acts as trusted expert and sparring partner, aligning scientific reasoning, evidence standards and claims logic across FEI, Ventures and IPL.
  • Represents G&B as trusted expert and external collaboration partner.
  • Supports breakthrough FEI explorations by defining hypotheses, evidence needs and future platform opportunities in hair/skin prejuvenation, rejuvenation and adaptive intelligence.
  • Addresses Beauty Tech questions on follicle/skin response, safety/efficacy, energy-tissue interaction and consumer effects.
  • Tracks dermatology, trichology, cosmetic science, beauty trends, technology, clinical evidence standards and market developments.
  • Uses external ideas, know-how and partnerships to accelerate innovation and build competencies.

You're the right fit if

  • You are naturally curious.
  • You have a Master’s or PhD in trichology, skin physiology, dermatology, follicle biology/physiology, biomedical sciences, human biology, cosmetic science, biophysics, pharmacology or related field.
  • You bring proven expertise in translating that scientific knowledge into consumer Grooming & Beauty applications
  • You can support, coordinate and steer external scientific networks, including academic/clinical experts, CROs, assay labs, modeling experts and KOLs.
  • You collaborate and communicate well, manage stakeholders and influence without authority in a global environment.
  • You embrace new tools, including AI, and new ways of working.
  • You understand skin/follicle responses to interventions, translating them into evidence, safety/efficacy logic and claims.
  • You have practitioner-level knowledge of topicals, actives, formulations, delivery systems and skin/topical interaction.
  • You structure scientific questions in ambiguity and communicate complex physiology clearly and actionably.
  • You turn scientific depth into consumer-relevant applications Philips Grooming & Beauty innovations.

Compensation & benefits

Doing meaningful work should come with fair, transparent rewards. The base salary range for this role is Min. € 78,187.00– Max. € 130,312.00 . We determine pay within the range using objective factors, like the skills the role requires, your relevant experience and the responsibility you'll have in this role, alongside internal equity and local market considerations.

This role is eligible for a 3% incentive with your rewards linked to your KPIs/company results. We’ll share the full approach with you during the interview process, so you can make a clear, informed decision.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week at the office. For this position it's Eindhoven, Netherlands.
