About The Role
Kent is looking for a Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Technician to support the Kearl In-Pit Tailings Area Project. This role is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and managing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), isolation, and Safety-in-Transition activities to support construction, commissioning, start-up, and operations readiness. The LOTO Technician works closely with Commissioning, Construction, Operations, Systems Completion, and HSSE teams to ensure energy isolation activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project procedures and regulatory requirements.
Skills and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
LOTO & Isolation Management
- Prepare, implement, maintain, and remove Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) isolations in accordance with approved procedures and site requirements.
- Review isolation requirements and develop isolation plans to support construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, maintenance, and operational activities.
- Install, verify, and remove locks, tags, and associated isolation devices as required.
- Conduct field verification of isolations to ensure equipment is rendered safe for work.
- Maintain control of lock boxes, isolation registers, and associated LOTO documentation.
- Verify zero-energy states through appropriate testing and validation methods before work authorization.
- Participate in isolation walkdowns with construction, commissioning, operations, and contractor personnel.
- Coordinate de-isolation and re-energization activities to support commissioning schedules and operational requirements.
- Assist with development and implementation of Safety-in-Transition boundaries and procedures.
Commissioning & Operations Support
- Support commissioning and start-up activities by coordinating required isolations and de-isolations for testing, energization, troubleshooting, and system turnover.
- Work closely with Commissioning Specialists, Area Authorities, and Operations personnel to ensure isolations align with system readiness and commissioning priorities.
- Participate in field reviews, PSSR activities, energization planning, and system turnover preparation.
- Monitor active isolations and identify conflicts, constraints, or risks that may impact project execution.
- Provide isolation support during planned outages, energizations, and construction-to-operations transitions.
Systems Completion & Documentation Support
- Maintain accurate isolation records, logs, and turnover documentation.
- Utilize project systems and databases to track isolation status, lock inventories, work permits, and system boundaries.
- Assist with preparation and review of isolation drawings, marked-up P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and boundary documentation.
- Ensure all isolation documentation is current, complete, and available for audits and handover activities.
Performance, Compliance & HSSEQ
- Ensure all isolation activities comply with site safe work practices, regulatory requirements, client specifications, and project procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and incident investigations as required.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, procedural gaps, or isolation concerns.
- Support audits and field inspections related to LOTO and energy isolation management.
- Promote a strong safety culture and intervene when unsafe acts or conditions are observed.
- Support preparation of reports, metrics, and lessons learned related to isolation management performance.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee’s skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification
- Journeyperson Electrician, Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant industrial experience will be considered.
- Significant experience supporting industrial Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), isolations, commissioning, start-up, maintenance, or operations activities.
- Strong understanding of energy isolation principles for electrical, mechanical, process, hydraulic, pneumatic, and stored-energy systems.
- Familiarity with permit-to-work systems, commissioning activities, and industrial safety practices.
- Working knowledge of isolation drawings, electrical single-line diagrams, and systems completion processes.
Communication
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and organizational levels
