Purpose

The Tax Accountant will support Reece USA's indirect tax and compliance activities, with primary emphasis on sales and use tax and additional support for property tax, business licenses, and corporate filings. This role partners with Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, IT, Legal, business teams, and external service providers to help maintain accurate filings, tax system data, supporting records, and account reconciliations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable researching multi-state tax issues, and able to manage recurring compliance deadlines while strengthening processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation, review, and timely filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, including coordination of data and documentation provided to external service providers.
  • Partner with IT and business teams to maintain tax configurations and rules within ERP and sales tax systems, including Avalara, and help monitor the accuracy of tax calculation, collection, and reporting.
  • Research product taxability and jurisdictional resale and exemption requirements; review and maintain exemption certificates and respond to customer, vendor, and internal indirect tax questions.
  • Assist with sales and use tax accruals, account reconciliations, audits, notices, and Voluntary Disclosure Agreements by gathering support, analyzing data, and coordinating responses.
  • Support property tax compliance by coordinating annual renditions, reviewing assessments, facilitating timely payments, assisting with valuation protests, and reviewing landlord real property tax reconciliations.
  • Coordinate business license filings and renewals and assist Legal with annual corporate reporting requirements.
  • Maintain organized tax records and procedures, identify opportunities to improve controls and workflows, and support other tax and compliance projects as needed.

Key Competencies and Skills Required

  • Sales and use tax knowledge , including familiarity with multi-state compliance, taxability research, and exemption and resale documentation.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills , with the ability to review large data sets, investigate differences, and maintain accurate supporting records.
  • Experience with tax technology and ERP systems ; Avalara experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel , including the ability to organize, analyze, and validate tax and accounting data.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization , with the ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines and follow issues through resolution.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills , including the ability to work effectively with finance, IT, Legal, business partners, taxing authorities, and external service providers.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving ability , with a focus on improving processes, controls, and compliance accuracy.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field required.
  • Two to four years of relevant tax or accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Corporate indirect tax experience is preferred.
  • Experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance is preferred; exposure to property tax and business licensing is a plus.
