Mercy Hospital’s Emergency Chest Pain Center (ECPC) provides a fully functional cardiac catheterization lab just steps away from the Emergency Department. This team can stop heart attacks in record time and works closely with paramedics to prepare for patient arrival. When heart attack patients are brough t to the ECPC, they are admitted directly to the emergency department c a t h e t erization lab for the procedure to begin. As an RN in the Cardiac Cath Lab , you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. Here, you will be able to master all of the components of treating patients with electrical needs within the Cath Lab as well as become cross trained in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab . This is also a great opportunity to earn further certifications and climb the professional ladder.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 5:30PM or 7:30AM – 6:00PM, with on-call requirements .

A caregiver who excels in this role will

  • Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.
  • Perform telephone triage and call rotations.
  • Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications.
  • Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team.
  • Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Direct, coordinate and participate in the evaluation and supervision of nursing care provided to patients.
  • Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.
  • Educate patients and families.
  • Develop, evaluate, adapt and document education to meet learning needs and abilities of patients and families.
  • Cover other nursing roles in the department.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing ( Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross upon hire or within six months of hire
  • One year of recent experience as an RN OR licensed RN with at least two years of LPN experience within the same Cleveland Clinic procedural department

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Two years of recent RN experience
  • One year of critical care experience in a hospital setting
  • Previous experience in a Cath Lab

Physical Requirements

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
