Job Description

Position Summary

The Industrial Engineer will be responsible for updating and maintaining the layout of the Monterrey plant, including the workstations within the facility. The position will be responsible for standardizing processes and operations, as well as defining and improving product handling after the injection molding process across Production areas.

The Industrial Engineer will also be responsible for line and work center balancing, conducting time and motion studies, and optimizing processes through continuous improvement projects.

The Engineer will be required to lead or participate in cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and effective resolution of problems. The position will also provide day-to-day engineering assistance and support for plant requirements, as well as support the introduction of new products.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of manufacturing design, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements and designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods internally and with suppliers.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning process and material flow.
  • Provide information to support decision-making by calculating production, labor, and material costs.
  • Maintain and update operational layouts and the overall plant layout.
  • Create and update Standard Work documentation for Production areas.
  • Perform line and work center balancing through time and motion studies.
  • Comply with the Thermo Fisher Scientific Code of Ethics, Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements, as well as all applicable policies and rules.
  • Establish corrective actions to reduce departmental downtime.
  • Participate in environmental and safety training sessions as required.
  • Perform assigned tasks in compliance with established controls designed to protect the environment and employee health and safety.
  • Participate in weekly environmental, health, and safety meetings.
  • Report applicable Hazard IDs identified during work activities related to environmental, health, and safety matters.
  • Participate in the 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX).
  • Participate in PPI activities.
  • Complete activities related to the Segurometro program.

Authority

  • Develop workstations and implement new layouts.
  • Purchase new equipment.
  • Approve and onboard new suppliers.
  • Create and release new documentation, including Standard Work, QWIs, and Visual Aids (VA).
  • Initiate and close validations.
  • Stop any work or activity within the facility that represents a safety risk.
  • Update Engineering-owned forms and procedures.
  • Identify and report non-compliance with the facility dress code.
  • Report activities that may impact the environment, when applicable.
  • Submit proposals for improvements to the Environmental Management System.
  • Implement appropriate corrective actions for activities that affect the environment when the intended results of the Environmental Management System are not achieved.
  • Open Hazard IDs related to environmental, health, and safety matters and take the necessary and appropriate actions to resolve them.

Position Requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Experience

Preferably 1–2 years of experience in a similar position or equivalent experience.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and basic knowledge of AutoCAD 3D preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced English proficiency preferred.

  • Operational plant layout.
  • Handover of new equipment or processes to Production.
  • A3 Problem-Solving Reports.
