About The Role
Design Phase Manager I and II
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Design Phase Manager I and II that will provide overall project leadership during the design phase as it relates to customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design and planning that results in a smooth transition to construction operations. May work on two projects simultaneously or one larger project.
This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the project team in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, construction readiness, and excellent financial performance
- Establish and manage project budget and scope expectations, budget trending logs, and any associated communications and resources
- Create and supervise manage project schedules and key achievements, hold team members accountable for reaching set achievements
- Ensure regulatory approvals and permits are obtained
- Ensure proper alignment of design documents and project execution plan
- Responsible for bid packages and contract manuals
- Identify and resolve technical design and specification concerns
- Develop project margin plan
- Act as primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners during the design phase and lead the overall project team
- Monitor and measure against project success factors for customers, design partners, and Mortenson team
- Foster an integrated team experience through communication and collaboration
- Manage, mentor, and guide design phase team members to ensure clear direction and career growth
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
- Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
- Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
- Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
- Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
- Ability to travel up to 100%

Design Phase Engineer I
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of six (6) years relevant experience
- The base pay range for this role is $113,500 MIN - $170,300 MAX.
(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Design Phase Manager II
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of six (8) years relevant experience
- The base pay range for this role is $132,100 MIN - $198,200 MAX.
(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
