General Summary

  • The Physician Clinical RN Coordinator provides health care services to patients both in the hospital and clinic setting under collaboration, direction, and responsibility of a physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compiles and documents all medical data on new admits and inpatients to include chief compliant/visit to assist with physician diagnosis.
  • Dictates history, physicals, progress notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries for patient medical record and physician assistance.
  • Tracks patients who are seen in the hospital for coding and billing. Monitors and documents in inpatient/outpatient medical record completely, accurately, and monitors for completion for quality and timely documentation.
  • Educates patient and family members on medical condition, preventative health maintenance, and supportive services to assist with on-going health maintenance.
  • Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
  • Administers fluids, medication, treatments, assists with procedures (i.e. surgical, special) and examinations, sets up needed instruments and supplies all as directed by physician.
  • Maintains inventory of medications and supplies, venous access devices (ports), administers IV push medications and flushes as ordered by physician.
  • Performs point of care lab testing, obtains blood samples and other specimens as ordered by physician. Performs daily quality checks for equipment and point of care tests to ensure integrity of testing and quality of equipment.
  • Processes prescription refill requests, referrals for consultative, diagnostic, and therapeutic services by obtaining pre-certification or authorizations to assist patient and insurance requirements.
  • Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, and meets attendance/punctuality requirements.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing RN program required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum three years clinical nursing experience required.
  • Excellent computer, critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills required. A blend of hospital and clinic nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience with EMR and CPOE preferred.

Certification/License

  • Current RN license in the state of Missouri or Compact State required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort. Typical medical clinic and hospital setting, working closely with physicians, patients, hospital, and clinic staff.
