Are you looking for an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead a skilled team in a time of significant growth in an AESA Radar sector, based in our Edinburgh office?
Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineering Lead (PEL) to join the engineering team and drive the development and delivery of next-generation products and radar systems. The role will be responsible for developments that span the AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) Core Delivery Team (CDT) and Power Systems CDT. This is an opportunity to work on an exciting and growing large-scale project. This role will be based at our Edinburgh Site and you will be joining a team with a rich heritage in Engineering, as part of Leonardo’s 100 years’ experience of pioneering development.
This role will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver the project, working in a in a highly collaborative environment. The PEL will provide the engineering leadership, in close partnership with the Project Engineering Manager, and Chief Engineer, to identify, develop, deliver and support technical solutions.
The PEL is responsible for providing engineering leadership to a multi-disciplinary engineering team throughout the project lifecycle to deliver the project’s plan on time, in budget and to quality standards. This will include ensuring that lifecycle reviews are held, that reporting mechanisms are in place, that a high level of motivation is maintained within the team and ensuring a consistently high level of performance is achieved by the team. The successful candidate will ensure the engineering team delivers the "best value" solution compliant with the customer's technical and budgetary requirements as well as all contractual, safety and legislative standards.
The Project Engineering Lead for the AESA and Power Core Delivery Team will
- Produce effective, efficient and realistic plans to deliver the solution, working closely and effectively with all stakeholders.
- Ensure effective implementation of the company's Lifecycle Management processes, including design & gate reviews.
- Agree qualification & acceptance criteria and design certification with the System Design Authority.
- Validate and meet targets for the development of design maturity.
- Deliver all engineering aspects of the monthly Project Performance Reviews.
- Promote streamlined ways of working across the engineering lifecycle in order to be competitive, ensuring re-use and modularity across proposed solutions.
- Establish and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) and upwards to the IPT lead and Engineering Leadership, managing and communicating any issues to senior management.
- Support the management of suppliers and project make-or-buy decisions.
- Control project configuration and change management
- Work closely with the Engineering team and Project Manager to resolve technical or programme conflicts.
- Ensure that the design rationale is fully documented.
What you’ll bring
- Degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated broad and deep experience with designing, developing and testing electronic, Radio Frequency (RF) and power systems.
- Knowledge of a typical Engineering lifecycle process and business processes.
- The ability to produce clear concise engineering documentation, with good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good schedule and budget control.
- Experience communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, across multiple sites.
- Strong leadership competency whilst demonstrating team working skills.
- A willingness to travel within the UK and possibly overseas
It would be nice if you had
- Extensive experience leading teams that have integrated systems and sub-systems together.
- Experience of working within the areas of Radar, EO/IR and/or Communications.
- Experience leading teams developing integrated solutions for airborne environments.
- Experience working with system design/system architecture.
- Achieved Chartered Engineer status or similar.
