About The Role

SUMMARY

  • The purpose of the Actuarial Analyst is to assist with the analysis and reporting within the UK Actuarial Function, supporting the achievement of Sompo UK’s strategic objectives. The role requires strong communication skills given the need to interact with various teams including other Actuarial areas, Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Risk and Capital, amongst others.
  • The role is a junior position in the UK Actuarial Function team, overseen by the Chief Actuary, Sompo UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the delivery of accurate management information and reporting for the UK entities, applying market insights and critical judgement to the process:
  • Support the Lloyd’s reporting requirements for the Syndicate 4711 as well as responses to requests from the PRA.
  • Development of Management Information to enhance Executive, Board and Senior Management understanding of key actuarial insights, in respect of all aspects of the UKAF.
  • Support to the Head of UK Regulatory Reserving relating to the SII/Technical Provisions.
  • Work collaboratively with other business functions in fulfilling the UKAF’s objectives:
  • Assist with the preparation of the Actuarial Function Holder reports.
  • Support and assist in actuarial projects and initiatives.
  • Assist with independent reviews, responding to both internal and external stakeholder challenge.
  • Collaborate with pricing and reserving to strengthen the feedback loop between the teams.
  • Support with the review and challenge of the UK entity reserving results.
  • Be able to effectively articulate the legal and regulatory demands impacting the actuarial team and broader business.
  • Contribute to decision making with regards to technical actuarial issues.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2- 5 years within an actuarial role in general insurance with relevant experience of actuarial analyses and project related work.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to utilise Power BI and use of programming languages will be helpful, but not a necessity.
