Youth Worker (Part-Time, 30.4 Hours Per Week)

At The Salvation Army, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive. As a Youth Worker in our Townsville team, you'll play a vital role in supporting young people experiencing alcohol and other drug challenges, providing guidance, encouragement, and practical support to help them build independence, reconnect with their strengths, and achieve their goals.

What You'll Do

As part of our 24/7 residential service, you'll provide practical support, guidance, and encouragement to young people on their recovery and wellbeing journey.

You'll

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Support clients through case management and individual support plans.
  • Coach young people in essential life skills, including budgeting, cooking, healthy living, personal wellbeing, and independent living.
  • Encourage participation in education, recreation, and community activities.
  • Support young people to reconnect with family, community, and support networks.
  • Respond confidently to challenging situations and crisis incidents.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and client documentation.
  • Work collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

What You'll Bring

  • Certificate IV or higher in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting young people with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues, mental health, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills.
  • A genuine passion for empowering young people to achieve their goals.
  • The ability to work independently while being a valuable team member.

Essential Requirements

✅ Current Driver Licence

✅ Working with Children Check

✅ Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
