The opportunity

We are searching for a self-motivated Senior Power Electronics Engineer with a proven track record to design and develop power electronics for dcbel’s suite of products.

Main responsibilities

Design and build hardware of power electronics converters for use in dcbel products.
End to end ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability validation and high-volume manufacturing.
Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and firmware engineering teams to design, validate and manufacture power converters.
Actively participate in the certification process by supporting the testing and providing solutions when needed.

Key requirements

8+ years of relevant hands-on hardware experience in power converter design (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent; Masters or PhD preferred.
Experience with high bandiwth power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s), gate drive and protection circuit design.
Experience with UL and/or CE electrical safety requirements and certification, and EMC requirements relevant to the design of power converters.
Experience with design of analog/digital circuits and micro-processors.
Experience in design and supervision of PCB layout for minimal stray inductance and capacitance, placement strategies for better manufacturability, power/signal plane definition and EMC optimization.
Excellent understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
Excellent understanding of thermal design.
Excellent understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (Electrolytic, film and Ceramic) used for power conversion.
Familiar Altium Designer.
Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation: Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators.

Bonus skills

Experience designing grid tied photovoltaic inverters according to UL 1741SA/SB an asset.
Experience designing bi-directional DC Electric Vehicle chargers according to UL 9741 and UL 2231 an asset.
