About The Role

OPERATIONS - COLLECTION SYSTEMS

Essential Functions

  • Investigate customer complaints with regard to sewer backups, sewer separation
  • requests, storm water problems, erosions, flooding, and other related issues;
  • Provide information to the public or governmental officials regarding the collection systems;
  • Manage the Sewer Separation Program and initiate work orders for installation of devices to alleviate sewer backups in buildings;
  • Provide CCTV review and coding for quality assurance of in-house CCTV inspections;
  • Investigates sewer problems dealing with such issues as backups and overflows, and make recommendations for maintenance and rehabilitation corrections;
  • Provide technical engineering support to Operations staff members;
  • Attend watershed meetings and coordinate communications between other divisions within MSD.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain records and prepare reports
  • Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or in the final year of coursework towards a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. [Note: In either case, MSD requires proof of graduation on or before the first day employment.]
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering; comprehensive
  • Knowledge of District regulations and procedures applicable to sewer construction
  • Problem solving and communication skills necessary to work effectively with contractors, engineers, and MSD staff to ensure the successful completion of these projects
  • Considerable knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and design software; extensive skill in reading and interpreting complex engineering plans and specifications
  • Exceptional skill in maintaining records and preparing technical reports
  • Thorough skill in analyzing and integrating data
  • Considerable skill in communicating effectively both in oral and written form
  • Exceptional ability in forming and maintaining effective working relationships.

ENGINEERING (CONSTRUCTION/DESIGN/ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLAINCE/PLANNING)

Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or in the final year of coursework towards a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. [Note: In either case, MSD requires proof of graduation on or before the first day employment.]

OPERATIONS

Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental engineering or in the final year of coursework towards a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. [Note: In either case, MSD requires proof of graduation on or before the first day employment.]

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering,
  • skill in the use of basic engineering tools;
  • working skill in making engineering computations;
  • working skill in reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications;
  • working skill in analyzing and integrating data;
  • working skill in maintaining records and preparing reports;
  • skill in following oral and written instructions;
  • deal effectively and courteously with associates and a wide variety of external contacts including the general public, outside
  • agencies, consultants, and vendors;
  • skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • skill in performing effectively as a member of the team in carrying out the District's mission and philosophy;

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.

Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.

All current employees must have a 'Meets Expectations' or 'Proficient' rating on their most recent performance evaluation to be eligible.
