About The Role

Start Your Behavioral Health Nursing Career at Glens Falls Hospital

As a new graduate nurse in our Psychiatric Specialty Track (Psych 101), you'll participate in Glens Falls Hospital's Nurse Residency Program with a Magnet-recognized organization committed to nursing excellence and professional development. Designed to support the transition from nursing school to professional practice, Psych 101 combines a progressive clinical orientation, specialty behavioral health education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing mentorship throughout your first year. Working alongside experienced preceptors, you'll gain experience in both the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) and Crisis Services Unit (CSU), caring for adult and child/adolescent patient populations while developing the therapeutic communication, critical thinking, and compassion essential to behavioral health nursing. Through interdisciplinary shadowing experiences and specialty education—including psychopharmacology, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, gender and sexuality, and other behavioral health topics—you'll build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed as a behavioral health nurse.

What to Expect

  • Begin your residency with dedicated preceptor support and an individualized clinical orientation, rotating with your preceptor through the BHU and CSU
  • Gain hands-on experience caring for adult and child/adolescent patient populations across inpatient behavioral health and crisis care settings
  • Participate in interdisciplinary shadowing experiences with Behavioral Health Technicians, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Social Workers, and other members of the behavioral healthcare team
  • Six months of structured educational sessions complemented by specialty behavioral health education led by the Clinical Outcomes Nurse Specialist, including psychopharmacology, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, gender and sexuality, and other behavioral health topics
  • Ongoing mentorship and orientation support from a Clinical Nurse Educator throughout your first year
  • A professional development day focused on peer support, career development, and nursing excellence

Salary Range

The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $38.00 to $43.00 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred; new hires will be required to complete their BSN within 5 years of hire.
  • Graduation from a Registered Professional Nursing Program.
