About The Role

Job Opportunity: Teacher of Individuals and Societies with Economics at South Island School - A Temporary Cover Role starting immediately in September 2026

Key Responsibilities

South Island School seeks an outstanding Teacher of Individuals and Societies with the capacity to deliver the MYP Individuals and Societies course, Global Citizenship IGCSE and Economics IGCSE. This position exists as the result of a temporary staff absence and will be available initially until 30th October with further extensions possible depending on the return date of the permanent post holder.

The successful applicant will be a highly skilled teacher, with the ability to motivate, inspire and engage with students in creative and innovative ways, both within and outside the classroom – with the overall goal of ensuring excellent educational outcomes for our students.

Please note that this role is only open to applicants who will be Hong Kong residents or have a Hong Kong working visa by the time the role starts. Completion of the Hong Kong teacher registration process will also be required if this has not already been completed.

The Role

Teachers at SIS are expected to be committed and flexible. Regular duties include

  • Planning lessons to meet each student’s individual learning needs and ensure excellent outcomes, in line with our Schemes of Learning;
  • Using a range of appropriate strategies for positive classroom management, including the use of flexible groupings and structured inquiry, in line with the IBO philosophy;
  • Enhancing learning through a range of well-considered resources, including digital technologies;
  • Maintaining a well-organised and stimulating learning environment;
  • Assessing students in relation to agreed learning outcomes;
  • Providing clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents, using agreed South Island School reporting systems;
  • Working closely with the Individuals and Societies faculty on future developments and shared planning;
  • Engaging actively with the Making a Difference, Values in Action and Expanding Horizons extra-curricular programmes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor’s Degree, as well as a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
