About The Role

Description of Work

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Recreation Therapist.

The primary purpose of this position is to accurately assess resident’s leisure preferences, develop plans of care, evaluate progress, as well as to determine needed services according to the professional standards of recreational therapy.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following

  1. Evaluating, designing, and implementing Therapeutic Recreation programs for the residents of BMNTC.
  2. Providing services for adults with neurocognitive disorders, including those with physical disabilities and individuals who are medically fragile.
  3. Providing interventions, approaches, and individual and group activities to meet the resident's care plan goals. Serves on the interdisciplinary team and provides recommendations to the team regarding a resident's plan of care.
  4. Providing education to staff to support resident’s leisure preferences and quality of life.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Salary Range: $41,407 - $62,111
  • Recruitment Range: $41,407 - $56,000
  • This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
  • The usual work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • Flexibility is required for education and training purposes and to meet the needs of the facility.

  • The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required.

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred

  • Experience working with individuals with neurocognitive disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care, relating to the resident’s leisure preferences.
  • Ability to instruct and/or guide direct care staff, student interns, and other staff involved in the care of the resident in recreation therapy methods and techniques.

Physical requirements definitions

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

ABOUT BLACK MOUNTAIN NEURO-MEDICAL TREATMENT CENTER

  • Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living.
