The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical Unix/Linux infrastructure projects that support the performance, resilience and modernisation of enterprise technology environments. As a Systems Engineer – Unix, you will play a key role in designing and implementing infrastructure solutions that enable business and technology transformation initiatives.

  • Design, build, configure, test and transition Unix/Linux infrastructure solutions across on-premises, hybrid and cloud environments, ensuring alignment with architecture, security and operational requirements.
  • Support major infrastructure projects including platform upgrades, migrations, modernisation programs, application and database transitions, and cloud adoption initiatives across enterprise environments.
  • Partner with architects, project managers, application, database, network, storage, cybersecurity and operational teams to deliver secure, resilient and supportable infrastructure solutions from design through to production handover.
  • Drive automation and continuous improvement through scripting, Infrastructure as Code and modern engineering practices, helping to improve deployment consistency, operational efficiency and long-term platform reliability.

About You

We're looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, delivering quality project outcomes and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders. You bring a practical approach to engineering, a focus on operational excellence, and the ability to translate technical requirements into reliable and scalable infrastructure solutions.

Essential

  • Experience as a Unix/Linux Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer supporting enterprise-scale environments.
  • Knowledge of enterprise Unix/Linux platforms such as IBM AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux, Solaris, HP-UX or equivalent, including system administration, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Capability in Shell scripting and automation, with experience in system provisioning, configuration management, patching and upgrades.
  • Understanding of storage, networking and infrastructure services, including file systems, LVM, SAN/NAS, TCP/IP, DNS, SSH and NFS.
  • Experience implementing security hardening, vulnerability remediation, backup and recovery, monitoring, and high-availability solutions.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation, manage technical risks and work effectively with project, operational and vendor stakeholders.

Advantageous

  • Experience supporting Unix/Linux workloads across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or other enterprise cloud platforms.
  • Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform or equivalent technologies.
  • Exposure to containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Python scripting experience for infrastructure automation, orchestration or operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Relevant certifications in Linux, IBM AIX, Unix, cloud, automation or infrastructure technologies, and/or tertiary qualifications in a related discipline.
  • This role requires the successful applicant to be an Australian citizen and hold an NV-1 security clearance.
