Maintenance Technician - $20-24/hr

Luxury Hotel — Suffern, NY

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Technician to join our hotel engineering team. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for routine and emergency maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of our hotel, guest rooms, grounds, and equipment.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, organized, and takes pride in their work . Attention to detail, reliability, good judgment, and a commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and general building maintenance throughout the hotel.
  • Troubleshoot and repair problems involving plumbing, painting, doors, locks, ceilings, flooring, walls, windows, fixtures, mechanical equipment, and other building components.
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in a variety of maintenance trades, including painting, plumbing, carpentry, and general repairs.
  • Inspect guest rooms, public areas, building systems, equipment, and grounds to identify potential problems before they become larger issues.
  • Complete maintenance and repair work in vacant guest rooms in preparation for incoming guests.
  • Paint interior and exterior walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Check the functionality of safety systems and report deficiencies promptly.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to maintenance emergencies and assist supervisors in resolving urgent situations.
  • Perform exterior maintenance, including salting, sanding, snow removal, and other winter-weather responsibilities.
  • Execute assigned work orders and communicate work status to the Chief Engineer in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and notify management when supplies, parts, or equipment are needed.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and appropriately, with a strong understanding of their applications.
  • Use a personal computer, smartphone, and maintenance applications for work orders, communications, and email.
  • Follow all company, state, and local health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Promote a safe working environment for guests, employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and cooperative attitude when interacting with guests, visitors, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all hotel departments and staff.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and ensure work is completed properly and efficiently.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to maintenance emergencies during evenings, weekends, holidays, and other scheduled on-call periods.
  • Work overtime when necessary, including during emergencies, severe weather, or other operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Previous hotel or commercial building maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of general building maintenance and repair.
  • Working knowledge of several maintenance trades, such as plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Proficiency with common hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills and the ability to learn work-order software and mobile applications.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to emergencies or guest concerns.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and scheduled on-call shifts as required.
  • Ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including snow and winter weather.

On-Call Requirement

This position will participate in a scheduled on-call rotation with the hotel maintenance/engineering team. The rotation is designed to provide reliable coverage for maintenance emergencies outside of regular working hours while distributing responsibility fairly among team members.

Employees assigned to on-call duty are expected to remain reachable, respond promptly to emergency calls, and report to the property when an in-person response is required.
