Pay Range: $18.00–$19.00 per hour, based on experience

Kern River Transitional Care is seeking a dependable and experienced Full-Time Cook to join our dietary team. In this rewarding role, you will prepare nutritious, flavorful, and visually appealing meals that support the health, comfort, and quality of life of our residents.

The ideal candidate is organized, team-oriented, and committed to following special diet requirements, food-safety standards, and approved menus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus, recipes, portion-control guidelines, and production schedules.
  • Prepare therapeutic and modified-texture diets accurately according to physician orders.
  • Prepare pureed, mechanically altered, and other special-diet foods as directed.
  • Ensure meals are appetizing, properly portioned, and served at appropriate temperatures.
  • Record food and equipment temperatures as required.
  • Maintain the kitchen and cooking areas in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition.
  • Follow proper food-handling, storage, labeling, dating, and sanitation procedures.
  • Assist with serving meals and preparing resident meal trays.
  • Clean kitchen equipment, work areas, serving carts, dishes, and utensils.
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and infection-prevention procedures.
  • Monitor food and supply levels and notify the Dietary Supervisor when items need to be replenished.
  • Work cooperatively with dietary, nursing, and other facility departments.
  • Report resident-care concerns, equipment problems, or potential safety issues promptly.
  • Assist with training and supporting dietary employees as requested.
  • Help supervise kitchen operations in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor when assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous cooking experience required.
  • Experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, long-term-care community, or high-volume kitchen preferred.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets, portion control, modified food textures, and food-safety practices preferred.
  • Food Handler Card or other required food-safety certification must be maintained.
  • Ability to follow menus, recipes, production sheets, and special-diet instructions.
  • Strong organization, time-management, and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable attendance and a positive, resident-focused attitude.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
