POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Manager- Hardware System Safety , you will be a mid-level leader responsible for leading the Hardware System Safety Engineering team, overseeing Agile delivery, sprint planning, and day-to-day development activities. This role governs adherence to CDISS/CLD requirements documents while ensuring the team meets its delivery commitments. The Manager – Hardware System Safety, serves as both a technical and people leader, balancing hands-on development oversight with team performance management. This position also focuses on developer talent development, mentoring engineers and supporting their technical growth.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the Hardware System Safety engineering team, setting technical direction, architecture strategy, and development priorities
  • Owns accountability for hardware system safety engineering deliverables, ensuring quality, scalability, and security across products and systems
  • Develops and manages budgets, resource plans, and staffing strategies for the hardware system safety engineering organization
  • Conducts performance management, career development, and mentorship for software engineering staff
  • Partners with product, QA, and executive leadership to align hardware system safety strategy with business and customer needs
  • Oversees resolution of complex technical challenges, system architecture decisions, and hardware risk management
  • Establishes and enforces hardware development standards, quality practices, and engineering best practices
  • Leads recruitment, hiring, and long-term workforce planning for the software engineering team
  • Represents hardware system safety engineering in leadership forums, roadmap planning, and executive discussions
  • Drives adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives across the team
  • Communicates project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership
  • Implements and maintains agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle
  • Performs additional job duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • 7 + years of Hardware System Safety engineering experience alongside 3+ years of formal team management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering required
  • Master's Degree or an MBA, preferred
  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Uses good judgement to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges
  • Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines with high-quality results

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
