Purpose
Athene is seeking Actuarial Student Co-ops to join our Canadian Service Company in downtown Toronto. The Actuarial Student Co-op will support one of several actuarial focus areas, which may include Experience Analysis, Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) Reporting, or CFT/Hedging. This opportunity is designed to provide hands-on exposure to actuarial analysis, reporting, financial processes and cross-functional collaboration. Start and end dates are flexible but will ideally encompass a minimum of four consecutive months in the summer of 2027.
Accountabilities
- Support actuarial analysis and reporting within an assigned area, including experience analysis, EBS reporting, cash flow testing, hedging or related actuarial activities.
- Gather, validate and analyze data; update Excel models and analytical inputs; compile outputs; and summarize results in a clear and presentable format for business leaders.
- Assist with recurring financial and actuarial processes, which may include derivative collateral monitoring, monthly collateral calculations and other reporting activities.
- Contribute to enhancing documentation, controls and processes to support an accurate, efficient and risk-aware operating environment.
- Apply critical thinking, creativity and emerging technology, including appropriate use of AI and automation tools, to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and the quality of analysis.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners on business priorities and ad hoc projects, demonstrating Athene’s BEAM values by engaging actively, acting like an owner and making it happen.
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with an interest in learning how actuarial analysis supports business decisions.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work independently, manage priorities and effectively meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience manipulating and analyzing large data sets is preferred. Exposure to Python, SQL, SAS or Power Query is an asset.
- Commitment to actuarial exam progress and curiosity about how AI and emerging technologies can appropriately support actuarial work, automation and productivity.
- Currently pursuing a four-year degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance or a related field.
