  • Status: 80 hours a pay period
  • Shift: varies

Position Purpose

Provides patient services using imaging modalities including radiography and other modalities such as nuclear medicine, diagnostic ultrasound, mammography, MRI, and CT as needed/applicable. Administers roentgen rays and radioactive substances to patients; operates X ray equipment; processes images; prepares examination room, equipment, supplies, and medications.

  • Thoroughly explains procedure to patient; addresses and responds to any patient concerns about the procedure and equipment.
  • Injects contrast media or assists with injections under the direction/supervision of the Radiologist or other physician.
  • Produces images of diagnostic quality consistently. Evaluates images for diagnostic quality before referring to radiologist.
  • Competent in collimation, patient and equipment positioning, cone adjustment, exposure factors; proper voltage.
  • Complete all consent forms for interventional exams, pregnancy forms, time outs for interventional exams, time in and time outs for observation patients and discharge instructions.
  • Carefully assesses the age-related variances for x-ray patients in techniques, amount of radiation, positioning, etc., for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • Assists in the orientation and development of personnel and students according to department needs and as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledgeable of radiation safety for self and others; wears protective clothing and uses enclosures; minimizes radiation to patient with shielding devices; uses proper care in fluoroscopic procedures.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and additional training in Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and CT as necessary. Additional training or qualifying experience in multiple modalities is desired and/or willingness to cross-train. Must be ARRT registered.
  • Physical stamina requisite to move and manipulate the equipment used in the several modalities.
  • Must pass background check and any other relevant onboarding.
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA and other related guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Assumes personal responsibility to complete all required competencies, certifications, annual HealthStream education and SQSS tasks within the assigned timeframes.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional self-development. Participates in in-services, educational programs, department meetings (attend a minimum of 80% of department meetings per year), and mandatory meetings.
  • Reviews and complies with general hospital and departmental policies and applicable laws and regulations including CMS/OIG and other compliance and industry standards.

Physical Aspects of the Job

  • Ability to communicate and work with patients, families, physicians, and other persons involved with the patient’s care.
  • Visual, auditory and speech acuity is requisite to verbal and written communication with employees, medical providers, nursing staff, patients and families, and other people associated with care.
  • Work involves exposure to radiation. Personal safety requires adherence to protective radiation safety techniques.
  • Physical stamina requisite to standing, walking, stooping, pulling, pushing, and lifting while performing imaging procedures on patients.
