About The Role
Your Opportunity
Join Stantec's Cultural Resources team as an archaeological technician based out of the Riverview, FL, Alpharetta, GA or Mobile, AL offices to play an integral role in conducting archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
This is a full-time, temporary, project-based position that requires extensive travel, including deployments of up to three months at a time. Projects may consist of 5- or 10-day rotations consisting with 8–10-hour work days. Stantec provides paid travel days, project-based per diem, and single occupancy hotel rooms for non-local projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to performing archaeological fieldwork tasks including controlled surface survey; shovel testing; and excavation.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experience on Phase I survey projects preferred
- Experience in Phase II testing or Phase III data recovery projects preferred
- Previous experience with mapping equipment and other special application equipment (e.g., ESRI’s ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, etc.)
- Knowledge of land navigation using a compass
- Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record and is comfortable driving anF-150 or equivalent to and from projects and unpaved roads
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented; resourceful; self-motivated; strong initiative
- Positive and energetic attitude
- Frequent out-of-town travel, potentially for extended periods of time
- Will require post-employment drug testing based on client needs
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology/archaeology or related field, or combination of education and experience
- Successful completion of an archeology field school
- Professional experience conducting archaeological survey and excavation helpful
- Knowledge of precontact and historic material culture
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or humid continental climate, including walking, hiking, carrying heavy loads, and digging
- Qualified applicants should exhibit strong technical skills, good communication skills, and feel comfortable making decisions in the field
