What You Will Do

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Collins Aerospace Strategic Defense Solutions, you will participate in the development, modification, integration, and testing of cutting-edge aircraft and ground vehicle training simulators for military and commercial applications. Our devices range in complexity from simple desktop trainers to high-fidelity full flight training systems. You will work on both clean-sheet and design reuse projects, creating mechanical equipment, electronics cabinets, and custom support structures and enclosures.

  • Mechanical design/layout of simulator components, structures and facilities using 3D CAD software modeling techniques
  • Create and review 2D CAD drawings applying appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing standards
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. electrical, software and systems engineering) to ensure the mechanical design is appropriate for the project/product design approach

What You Will Learn

  • Anticipated experience gained includes mechanical design, analysis, dimensioning and tolerancing methods for manufacture/assembly, hands on system integration/assembly, and team communication and collaboration.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks or Creo Parametric
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint)
  • Experience with the design, manufacture, and integration of mechanical hardware of moderate complexity
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software.

  • Onsite : Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
