About The Role
The Manager, Disease Strategy Finance is a key member of Vertex's Disease Strategy Finance Team, providing financial and strategic insights to inform Disease Strategy Teams (“DSTs”) on key decisions. This role will work closely with Directors on the DST Finance team to conduct financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario-based valuations. The Manager, Disease Strategy Finance will also play a critical role in creation of the Annual Budget, Long-Term Plan (LRP), and other financial forecasts in collaboration with colleagues. The role will partner closely with members of the global COFO organization, including finance teams supporting R&D, Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Manufacturing, Corporate, and Commercial. Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance – Disease Strategy Teams, the Manager is a key member of Vertex’s Strategy Finance team and the global FP&A organization. This role will lead financial analysis required to inform Disease Strategy Teams (“DSTs”) on key decisions. Financial analyses will include financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario-based valuations. The Manager FP&A, Strategy Finance will also play a critical role in creating the Annual Budget, Long-Term Plan (LRP), and other financial forecasts. The role will be primary lead for preparation of collaboration financials for both internal and external partner reporting. The role will partner closely with members of the global CFO organization, including finance teams supporting R&D, Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Manufacturing, and Commercial. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide range of financial analyses to inform DST decisions on investments.
- Lead preparation of alliance/collaboration financials for revenue/cost sharing in accordance with co-development/co-commercialization contract terms.
- Develop and maintain financial models covering all aspects of biopharmaceutical research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization.
- Provide Strategy Finance input into regular financial planning processes (Annual Budget, Forecasts, Long-Range Plan), for assigned Disease Areas.
- Manage Disease Area P&Ls for assigned DSTs, including ensuring consistent presentation of DST finances across Vertex, explanation of variances vs. forecasts, identification of risks/uncertainties, and opportunities for mitigation.
- Prepare a wide range of presentations for cross-functional stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Collaborate throughout CFO organization to identify and deliver on process improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Finance, Economics, or related quantitative/analytical field; MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant finance and industry experience - Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with biopharma alliance/collaboration accounting preferred though not required.
- Understanding of biopharmaceutical drug research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization required.
- Exceptional analytical and financial skills to evaluate a broad range of financial questions – especially valuation, ROI/ROIC, and complex multi-disciplinary business decisions.
- Experience with Excel and PowerPoint; Experience with Hyperion (or another multidimensional database), business intelligence or visualization tools a plus.
- Proficient business acumen, judgment and knowledge of the company’s markets/products and industry trends.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and an eagerness to collaborate with colleagues (within or outside of finance) in sharing insights and learnings. Must be able to work well with senior leaders, peers, and junior team members.
- Possesses a high degree of attention to detail and ownership over work product with the flexibility to adapt to change.

Pay Range
$116,000 - $174,000

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
