Headquartered in Ireland, delivering throughout Europe, [Company Name] is a leading engineering and contracting company specialising in data-centre projects. We are currently seeking an experienced MV Commissioning Engineer to join our team. This position will be site-based in Dublin.
The MV Commissioning Engineer will work as part of the Electrical Commissioning team and will be responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision and execution of Medium Voltage commissioning activities on critical data-centre projects.
The MV Commissioning Engineer must have a strong understanding of MV electrical systems and commissioning processes, together with the ability to supervise specialist vendors and sub-contractors to ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely, to the required quality standards and in accordance with the project commissioning programme.
The successful candidate will coordinate closely with the Commissioning Manager, Electrical Engineers, Project Management, QA/QC, Energy Marshalling and specialist MV vendors to ensure systems are correctly tested, commissioned, energized and handed over in accordance with approved project documentation.

Responsibilities
- Management and coordination of MV commissioning activities for assigned electrical packages and vendors.
- Ensure all MV commissioning activities are completed in accordance with the approved project scope, specifications, drawings and commissioning procedures.
- Coordinate with MV equipment manufacturers, specialist commissioning vendors and electrical sub-contractors.
- Prepare and maintain weekly MV commissioning progress reports for onward submission to Commissioning Management.
- Management, coordination & attendance of factory witness testing (FAT/FWT) and or facility off-site testing.
- Coordinate with the Energy Marshalling / Electrical Operations team to ensure safe planning and execution of MV switching, energisation, isolation and permitting activities.
- Review and track approval of relevant MV commissioning documentation, including commissioning procedures, test scripts, method statements, test records, compliance statements and equipment documentation.
- Assist with the commissioning and testing of MV switchgear, transformers, protection systems, MV cabling and associated equipment.
- Review protection relay settings and associated test documentation in accordance with approved project requirements.
- Conduct and maintain the project commissioning tagging process and procedures.
- Identify commissioning issues, coordinate troubleshooting activities and ensure defects are recorded, tracked and closed out.
- Promote a strong safety, quality and environmental culture throughout all commissioning activities.
- Provide technical support to the Commissioning Manager and wider project team as required.
- Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services Engineering, Engineering or an Electrical Trade qualification with relevant training and experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar electrical commissioning role , preferably within a construction environment.
- Proven experience working on MV electrical systems , preferably within critical infrastructure, data-centre, commercial, industrial or pharmaceutical projects.
- Strong commissioning experience with MV switchgear, transformers, protection systems and associated electrical distribution systems.
- Experience coordinating and supervising specialist MV commissioning vendors and electrical sub-contractors.
- Good understanding of MV switching, isolation, energisation and permit-to-work processes.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, protection diagrams and equipment documentation.
- Experience with MV protection relay testing and commissioning is desirable.
- Experience with MV cable testing and commissioning is desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical protection systems, interlocks, metering and control systems.
- Experience working with some or all of the following is desirable:
- MV Switchgear (incl respective interlocking strategies)
- MV Transformers
- Protection Relays (incl Primary/Secondary Injection Testing experience)
- MV Cabling
- Protection & Control Systems
- Generator MV Distribution
- UPS Systems
- LV/MV Transformers
- EPMS/BMS/SCADA interfaces
- IEC61850/Goose Networking highly desirable
- Construction experience and a strong understanding of site safety requirements are essential.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple commissioning activities simultaneously.
- Ability to identify problems analytically, coordinate solutions and act decisively.
- Process-driven approach with a strong focus on safety, quality and programme delivery.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, consultants, vendors, sub-contractors and project teams.
