We are currently seeking a Controls Development Engineer to join our dynamic team in Piove di Sacco (PD), Italy !

The Controls Development Engineer will be responsible for working along the entire Embedded PLC Software Life-cycle, which is used to control complex thermal engineering machinery for Application SW complex projects. Translating software and hardware requirements into concise and robust programming code and document it, working as team player with other Controls Engineers to deliver working software releases. Providing solid configuration management to each part of the project and act according to release plans. Providing support to all areas of the company that requires it, such as Sales, Offering, System Engineering, Procurement, Operation and Service.

What kind of work will you be doing?

Development of New Software

  • Translate high level application requirements into Software Specifications, producing the related deliverables (documentation, Scope of Operations, test plans).
  • Design, develop and implement PLC programs and applications that respond to given requirements.
  • Perform prototyping, application tests and code reviews to ensure product quality.
  • Validate the released software attending tests in Lab and in the field, reporting bugs and proposing possible improvements
  • Deliver training and product handover to relevant stakeholders – Academy, Application Engineering and Service

Software Life-Cycle Maintenance

  • Maintain existing software baselines, perform debugging, testing, code improvement and re-designing tasks, including the configuration management process
  • Review hardware and components evolution and phase-in/phase out, adapting and redesigning according to the need.
  • Collaborate with Service and Quality teams to optimize products and ensure products stay up-to-date and continue to satisfy customer needs.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting of high-level PLC issues, with development teams and appropriate methodology.
  • Prepare training documents for maintenance and production teams, explaining the operation and troubleshooting of complex control systems.

Software

  • Design and develop software applications based on given requirements and specifications
  • Understand client requirements for GUI/communication interface, networking and create specifications based on these requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues with already existing systems
  • Technical writing including Software Sequence of Operation (SOO)
  • Requirement Reviews – Participate in reviews and work with Systems Engineering or Customers to ensure proper implementation of features

General

What will make you successful?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related field of study OR the equivalent combination of education and/or years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant project experience working with controls and automation equipment related to development, programming, debugging, as well as support and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Programming Logic Controllers according to IEC 61131-3 standards or similar.
  • Ideally, good knowledge of other programming and scripting languages (C/C++, C#, Javascript, Python, HTML), even academic.
  • Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues

General Skills

  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer literacy
  • Knowledge of software version-control systems (Git, GitHub, perforce) is nice to have
  • Good English written and oral communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others and have a positive attitude
  • Must be a creative thinker, results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Must have ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Sharp, quick, dedicated and innovative problem solver
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and able to think designs through completely

The anticipated salary range for this role in Piove di Sacco (PD), Italy is between 48.000€ to 60.000€ gross per year (based on a full-time working week). Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation and benefits. Where applicable, a comprehensive overview of the full benefits package and any additional compensation will be provided during the recruitment process in accordance with local legal requirements. Compensation is determined based on objective, gender-neutral criteria, including skills, experience, and job responsibilities.

The applicable National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL) for this role is Metalmeccanico Industria.
