Journeyperson Electrician (Substation Construction)

About The Role
Our Substation group is currently looking to add Journeyperson Electricians to our growing team.
Reporting to the Substation Construction Foreman, the Journeymen Electrician will participate in the construction of medium and high voltage electrical systems within a live substation, ensuring construction is executed effectively and safely.
Please Note: We are looking for resources on 2 sites (1 outside of Thunder Bay, ON and 1 in Atikokan, ON). We will provide LOA for those who qualify. Schedule is 10 hours days (Regular time Pay); 8 days on / 6 days off (from Wednesday to Wednesday) with a 0700 AM Start.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the installation Steel and commissioning of medium and High Voltage (HV) equipment including setting steel supports (gantries, H-frames), transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear
Conduct high-voltage terminations and grounding focusing on structural integrity and electrical safety
Perform substation steel erection, cable tray building, cable trench, bus installation
Handle cable installation for medium and high voltage power distribution systems
Terminate medium and high voltage cables, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards
Interpret medium and high voltage electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams for planning and executing installations and terminations in construction projects
Manage Material deliveries and inventorying of Materials as per the assigned work fronts, identifying any potential risks and bringing to the Site Supervisors and Foreman’s attention
Ensure that Valard’s equipment and tools are being used in safe and professional manner; the tools are accounted for daily; any defective tools and equipment are tagged out of service and brought to the foremen’s attention
Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes
Comply and follow Valard’s Safety Policies and Procedures
Work with on-site Safety Advisor to address any safety concerns brought forth by crews and or Client
Requirements
- 4 years of experience in the construction industry
- Journeyman / Journeyperson Electrician (Red Seal) certification
- Knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, and understanding of quality control
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend blueprints and an understanding of SCADA systems
- Comprehension of pertinent basic EB & G Principles and lock out / tag out procedures
- Must hold a Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Employees are required to bring their hand tools as per the agreement
- PPE required: FR Clothing, Hard hat, Safety Glasses, Gloves
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
- Expertise in medium and high voltage electrical systems, particularly in construction settings and cable terminations
- Experience in medium-to-high-voltage substation construction
- This project will be on a unionized worksite. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW).
- Project orientation & Hydro One Station Safety Awareness training will be required prior to getting on-site (each is an online course).
Benefits
This position offers an hourly rate from $45 - $50, depending on skills and experience.
