About The Role

Kitt designs and operates workspace for the world's most vibrant brands. From managing the design and build, to creating an elevated ongoing experience, we create spaces that are worth leaving home for.

Alongside that, we are building a second product: a new platform for the operational side of running buildings, sold as a service to the companies that own and manage them. It is greenfield TypeScript, live in production with real customers, and growing quickly. We keep the detail off the job ad. We will take you through the product, the market and the roadmap properly at first interview.

Responsibilities

  • Own a product end to end : Take technical ownership of one of our two products, from the database schema up to the interface. You make the architectural calls. The Head of Engineering is a sounding board, not an approver.
  • Build across the whole stack : Ship features that start in Postgres and finish in a React component. A typical piece of work touches the schema, the GraphQL API, the web app, and often the React Native app used by engineers on site.
  • Turn problems into shipped software : Take a problem straight from a customer conversation to production. Shape the scope, decide what to leave out, and cut it into slices that ship in days rather than months.
  • Forward deployment : Spend time on site with customers, suppliers and our own operations teams. Watch the software being used, find the gap between what we built and what they actually need, and close it.
  • Set the standard : Review code properly, mentor the mid-level engineers, and establish the practices that still hold when the team is twice the size.
  • Own it in production : Observability, alerting, and the unglamorous fixes for the code you shipped. We deploy continuously and everyone carries their own work.
  • Bring the two products closer together : There is real work in how the two systems fit. You will help shape that and then do it.

About you

  • Deep TypeScript : Several years writing production TypeScript across both back end and front end, in codebases you then had to live with. This is the core of the role.
  • Genuinely full stack : You can design a schema, an API and a React component in the same day, and you have opinions about all three. Kitt's services are Go: that experience is a bonus, not a requirement, and we will help you pick it up.
  • Product mindset : You start from the user and the commercial problem, not the ticket. You argue about scope and would rather cut a feature than ship a worse version of it. After raw engineering ability, this is the trait we weight most heavily.
  • Design taste : You care how the thing looks and feels and can hold your own in a design conversation. Bonus points if you enjoy building interfaces and are good at it.
  • Comfortable in front of customers : You can sit with a building manager or an engineer on site, ask useful questions, and hear that your feature is not working without getting defensive.
  • Ownership by default : You spot the thing that needs doing, scope it, and ship it. Nobody here is going to hand you a plan.
  • Judgement about what to build well : You know when something deserves a durable design and when a rough version answers the question faster. Small teams get killed by both extremes.
  • You lift the people around you : Reviews that teach, pairing that helps, standards you hold without being precious about them.
  • Scale-up energy : Ambitious and excited to work in a friendly scale-up environment with the mission to transform workspaces globally.

Why Kitt?

The world of work has shifted forever. As people everywhere prioritise purpose over their paychecks, company culture has been thrown into the spotlight. But the problem is, too many companies are showing up to work in bland, cookie-cutter offices. We’re leading this change.

Real company culture can only be built in-person, in the real world – and for it to be authentic it needs its very own, personalised space. That’s why we create offices as unique as the brands and the people who work there. We’re long-term culture partners to our clients long after they've signed the lease and chosen.
