Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Parks, the Seasonal Maintenance Operator supports daily activities of operational services within the division. The Seasonal Maintenance Operator will perform a variety of operational tasks to support various areas such as parks, sidewalks and open spaces, while ensuring they are meeting service levels and following all safety standards. Successful candidates must be able to work 40 hours per week on shifts that include working weekends on days and midnights.

Term: November 2, 2026 – March 31, 2027

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Performs winter park and sidewalk maintenance activities of salting, sanding and plowing
  • Performs general maintenance, cleanup duties and safety checks of Town sidewalks, parks, open spaces and outdoor ice rinks
  • Operates assigned vehicles and equipment including but not limited to trackless and attachments, snowblowers, gators, tractors, one-ton trucks, power tools and radio communications
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of assigned equipment and tools
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Ontario Health & Safety legislation and established policies & procedures
  • Follows equipment operating guidelines
  • Ensures all PPE is utilized and worn as per requirements
  • Perform pre and post audits of all equipment utilized
  • Complete equipment work order forms as required
  • Responds to customer inquiries according to established procedures and approved decision-making framework
  • Maintains ongoing communication with internal staff and contractors to maintain a high level of efficiency and service
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma required or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in municipal public works or parks and/or other relevant and/or equivalent experience
  • Possession of a class “G” Ontario Driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. OHSA
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Mechanical aptitude to operate relevant equipment
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Candidates must be physically fit and able to work in varying climatic conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education parks or maintenance or related field and/or combination of relevant post secondary education and related experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in municipal road or park operations
  • Standard CPR and First Aid
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
