The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist role is based in Rochester, New York (onsite role) .

Where You'll Make a Difference

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site Environmental, Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with site leadership to foster a strong safety culture aligned with the company's commitment to zero injuries and incidents.
  • Manage environmental permits, regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, sampling programs, and waste management activities.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis activities, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop, administer, and deliver environmental, health, safety, and operator training programs that support regulatory and company compliance requirements.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene programs including hearing conservation, hazard communication, respiratory protection, ergonomics, heat stress prevention, and exposure monitoring.
  • Coordinate occupational health programs including respirator compliance, medical surveillance, and workers' compensation reporting and investigations.
  • Manage Department of Transportation hazardous materials compliance, including training, packaging, labeling, shipping, and security requirements.
  • Support Process Safety Management and Process Hazard Management Program requirements, ensuring programs remain effective and compliant.

What Makes You the Right Fit

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Two or more years of Environmental Health and Safety experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, environmental compliance requirements, and industrial safety programs.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, implementing corrective actions, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Experience developing and delivering employee training programs related to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

How Would You Stand Out?

  • Master's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional certification or other relevant Environmental Health and Safety credentials.
  • Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments with food safety programs, International Organization for Standardization 22000, Feed Additive and Premixture Quality System, or dietary supplement quality standards.
