Job Description
Pricing & Product Profitability Strategy
- Define and own the long-term pricing strategy aligned with the company’s overall strategy to achieve sustainable profitability, competitive positioning and business growth, that supports the company’s financial objectives and product margin management
- Establish long-term pricing roadmaps supporting enterprise growth, profitability and market leadership objectives
- Lead strategic pricing decisions relating to product mix, repricing, portfolio optimization, distribution economics and capital allocation for revenue, profitability, capital requirements and business competitiveness
- Lead pricing governance, pricing philosophy and pricing frameworks across new business and in-force portfolios.
- Serves as the principal advisor to the Chief Product Officer and Executive Committee on matters relating to product profitability, pricing governance, portfolio composition, distribution economics and capital-efficient growth, directly shaping strategic decisions that influence revenue growth, Value of New Business (VNB), Contractual Service Margin (CSM), product margins, market competitiveness and long-term shareholder value.
Product Innovation & New Product Ideas for Growth Opportunities
- Lead the product innovation agenda and identify margin enhancement as well as future growth opportunities through new product idea generation
- Shape long-term product portfolio to support product diversification, margin enhancement and sustainable growth
- Lead strategic pricing decisions with significant implications for revenue, profitability, capital requirements and business competitiveness
- Actively generate, evaluate and champion new product ideas that respond to evolving customer needs, distribution feedback and market opportunities.
- Lead the translation of innovative product concepts into commercially viable, priced propositions with clear value propositions for customers and channels.
- Leverage market insights, competitor intelligence, customer research and distribution input to shape a forward-looking product and pricing pipeline.
- Shape industry dialogue and monitor emerging trends to proactively position the organization for future challenges and opportunities.
Distribution Partnership & Campaign Strategy
- Establish distribution pricing and campaign strategies that optimize P&L, sales productivity, profitability and market share
- Lead pricing decisions for sales campaigns, tactical promotions and channel-specific initiatives, ensuring commercial discipline while enabling company success.
- Balance channel competitiveness, acquisition costs, profitability and shareholder value considerations in all campaign decisions
Product Development & Pricing Execution
- Provides strategic leadership in optimizing product profitability, managing in-force business performance, and maintaining a disciplined pricing framework across the organization.
- Aligning product and asset strategies to maximize long-term business value while ensuring appropriate risk-return outcomes.
- Lead the pricing workstream within the Product Development Process to ensure products are delivered on strategy, on time and with robust pricing.
- Guide the Product Pricing team to enhance workflow, reduce time-to-market and improve process efficiency without compromising quality or governance.
- Ensure the overall product proposition remains competitive; recommend and implement timely pricing or benefit adjustments when required.
- Ensure all product development and pricing work meets internal approval, risk and regulatory requirements.
People & Leadership
- Develop a team of actuarial, pricing and product professionals while building future leadership capability across the Product organization.
- Provide leadership to the Pricing team to strengthen collaboration with Life & Health colleagues and other functions.
- Champion a culture of speed, commercial pragmatism, strong project management and continuous improvement within the product and pricing function.
Requirements
- University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or related discipline.
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent internationally recognized actuarial qualification.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience within financial services, preferably Life and Health insurance.
- Significant senior leadership experience in pricing, product management, profitability management or related commercial disciplines.
- Proven track record of leading strategic pricing decisions and influencing business outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive enterprise-level initiatives.
- Strong business sense on P&L optimization.
- Deep actuarial pricing expertise across Life and Health products
- Strong understanding of Hong Kong insurance market dynamics, competitive landscape and regulatory environment.
- Advanced knowledge of pricing governance, product economics, profitability management and VNB drivers.
- Expertise in product portfolio management, pricing strategies and in-force value optimization.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance growth, profitability, client value and risk considerations.
- Understanding of asset-liability management, capital implications and investment considerations in product pricing decisions.
- Ability to translate complex actuarial, financial and risk concepts into strategic business recommendations.
