What We Do: Our Library Team supports our students and staff by providing access to academic resources, expert guidance and creating welcoming, well equipped spaces that foster independent study, collaboration and academic success.
The Role: The Assistant Librarian plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the library delivering and supporting information literacy sessions in collaboration with lecturers, facilitating access to physical and digital resources, managing book and laptop loans, and overseeing the use of study spaces.

The role also requires flexibility, including occasional late evening and weekend work, to meet service needs.

What the Role Involves
- Design and deliver information literacy sessions and workshops tailored to academic programmes.
- Provide advanced research support to students, including dissertation guidance and database navigation.
- Manage subject-specific collections and liaise with academic staff to ensure alignment with curriculum needs.
- Support the integration and optimisation of digital platforms including FOLIO, Moodle, and EBSCO Discovery Service.
- Promote and facilitate access to academic databases such as CINAHL, ScienceDirect, and others.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of LibGuides, instructional materials, and online help resources.
- Participate in the 'Ask a Librarian' service and respond to complex enquiries.
- Manage, supervise and mentor Library Assistants as required.
- Rotate between multiple campuses as required to cover absences and staffing issues.
About You
- Degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
- Experience in delivering library instruction or academic support.
- Strong knowledge of academic databases and digital library systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable
- Experience working in a Higher Education library or educational setting.
- Experience with FOLIO, Moodle, and EBSCO platforms.
- Familiarity with subject-specific resources in health, business, or computing.
- Understanding of inclusive teaching practices and student support.
- Experience in collection development and resource evaluation.
